I got a rabbit for my birthday 3 years ago. I tried my best to take care of her with no experience and no knowledge of health conditions. I obvisouly could of done things better but I would like to think I did my best and gave her a good life. She stopped eating in recent days and I had no idea why. I was confused and worried. My family had no money to take her to a vet so tht was not an option. Today my mom told me to come and my rabbit was laying on her side in her cage, acting as she was choking. I had no idea what to do. I picked her up and she just… died……. Now, I regret everything…. Why did she die? How did she die? What could I have done? I wish we had a stronger bond and that I played with her more….. I let her out every day but I can’t honestly say that my rabbit loved me…. I just don’t know what to do anymore.. I’m crying as I write this and as I have been for the 4 hours she has been dead….

        Please help…

I’m very sorry for your loss.
Please don’t blame yourself for her death. It’s no use speculating about what you perhaps could or should have done, that’s just to torment yourself and won’t change anything. When you are a minor and don’t earn your own living, you have to live by your parents’ rules, and that’s just how it is.

I think your rabbit died from gastrointestinal stasis, which means that the stomach and intestines stop working. That is very common with rabbits. It’s not sure that a vet could have saved her. Many rabbits die from gastrouintestinal stasis.

Thank you.. From a little research I thought that it could be GI.. I’m not getting another rabbit, but if I was, how can you keep GI from happening?

I can understand how lack of right resources and money issues can contribute to keeping our pets’ health at its best. Despite of the money constraints you kept her well.

The simplest way to prevent GI stasis is to make sure that the bunny have a lot of hay and pellets. Hay, most importantly. Rabbits tend to deliberately hide their illness because they are a prey specie. This must have made it impossible for you to know all this while.

              *hugs*
