Can you give rabbits Papaya Enzyme chewable tablets that are sold for humans?

I wouldn’t give any animal something meant for something else-it could be an incorrect dose or unsafe source.

Why do you want a papaya supplement? A treat is fine, but if you are looking to improve digestion-hay hay hay

Yes, you can for the papaya tablets – they are great treats.

I was thinking about giving the bunnies papaya enzyme because I had read that they are a good supplement to help prevent blockages due to ingesting hair. Now, however, I have read mixed opinions about this. Some articles say that the benefit is only gained from fresh papaya. Someone on the forum buys a papaya and cubes it then freezes the rest. I think I am going to try this. I think erring on the side of caution is best. I don’t want to cause more harm then good. Thanks for the feedback though.

LIkely it won’t help in a blockage – the best thing for prevention is hay, exercise and hydration. GI stasis isn’t really due to ingesting fur, it’s due to the gut slowing down…the enzyme found in papaya doesn’t break down the fur anyway, it breaks down mucus that might be surrounding the fur.

In any event, this is a good treat for rabbits if they like it that is.

And to be honest, not sure how much of the active enzyme is actually in those papaya tablets sold for rabbits or sold for humans.
