I am trying everything. From hiding treats in his hay to wrapping his vegetables in hay to only giving him hay for a week. But, this little sneaky bunny Cooc always finds a way to not eat his hay. I have tried 3 different brands of hay and 5 different types of hats but he is still not eating his hay. In my other posts I mentioned that I ordered One Ear Up hay and now instead of nibbling a little on the house blend, he does not want to eat it at all. Should I try and order some Oat hay ? I am willing to order anything at this point I also try stuffing his favorite toys with hay but he just ignores it. When I put him on the only hay diet for about a week he wouldn’t eat the hay even though he was very hungry. Finally, I had to give him the pellets or else he would starve. What should I do now ?

Hmmm, this is odd. Try to feed him fresh grass instead. Bermuda grass would be good. No grass clippings from a mower, though. Do you have 1st cut hay? 1st cut has a lot of seed heads. Coco might prefer 2nd if he has 1st. Maybe he will even try 3rd. You can tell what cut the hay is by its smell, color, and texture. 1st cut is the quite coarse, is a pastel green, and smells sweet. 2nd cut is still coarse but softened, it is light green with kelly green mixed in, and it smells stronger. 3rd cut is leafy and very green and smells the best and the strongest. I use 1st cut, but 2nd cut is best. 3rd cut is for the pickiest ones and it has the least fiber. 2nd has the most fiber. Maybe you should try and find 3rd or 2nd cut if you already haven’t. If he still doesn’t eat…then I really don’t know.

My Lancelot won’t eat hay either. I gave him a toilet roll with hay inside, he ignored it. I’ve tried timothy and orchard hay. I want to go to the feed store this week and ask for samples of different hay/cuts to see if there is anything he will eat. I like the idea of fresh grass clippings, but when I put him outside on the lawn, he won’t eat it. This evening I’ll cut up some hay into pellet size pieces and mix it in with his pellets. I adopted him with dental issues. His prior diet included largely candy, so he is a crazy sugar fiend, and is the only one not eating hay. It took a bit to convince him to eat greens. so at least he is eating something other than just pellets.
