So I noticed in the past week a few things have changed with Speckles. The biggest is that she is becoming a pain in the butt. She will jump into our laps, and nudge our hands for pets. We will pet her, and then she will bite us, fairly hard, nudge us again for more pets, but get bitey again, and then run away to the floor…

She has started to run in circles around my boyfriend as well, a new habit that started three or four days ago.

And the final odd habit, what we jokingly call her “cleaning”. We have a big plush cushion on the floor for her, which she LOVES to lay on. It’s her couch basically. ((used to be our old couch cushion actually!)) Speckles will be laying on it, and then start to shove down and forward on the cushion with her paws, almost as if she were pushing things away. Then she will dig for a moment, and then try to pull up the cushion violently. And then repeat. I’m gonna try to get it on camera one day, because my explanation isn’t the best.

She will also do her “bunny cleaning” if we are on the couch with a blanket over us. She will hop onto us, and begin to do it to the blanket. But if we don’t have a blanket she doesn’t do it.

This is the video I jsut took of her. She didn’t do the violent tugging step, but the pushing and digging part is there.

We know she is not. No idea how old she is. One vet said a few months, the other said a few years.

((She was abandoned. We found her and took her home with us.))

IT sounds like a hormonal bunny. It doesn’t absolutely mean she’s a teenager, sexual urges can awaken late (this was the case with my bunny Bam).
The thing she does with the pillow could be nesting- behavior perhaps. I’m check out the video later, it won’t open on my phone.
My bunny Yohio digs frantically at blankies. He used to lick at fabric until he’d been here for quite a while, then he started to lick my hands and arms instead. That’s normal bunny behavior imo.

I’m wondering if she may be hormonal. I dunno. I’m hoping we can get somewhat of an idea with her age. I have a spay pre-op appointment set up for the end of August, and I’m hoping the vet agrees that she is old enough.

I had another small pillow bed in her cage, which she guitted, and seemed to start making a nest for off in another corner of the cage, near her litterbox. ((She has a small alcove/nook there that is almost like a hutch.))

Looked at the video now, it looks like digging. That’s just normal bunny-behavior. But nesting with a gutted pillow indicates hormonal. (That’s of course normal too!)

                  She’s very cute =)

Definitely get her spayed for health reasons.

From the video, it doesn’t look like nesting to me. Just looks like a bunny trying to “arrange” her comfy spot! If you ever watch a bunny with a towel or blanket, they dig in it, pull it up under them, and push it around. It looks like that’s what she’s trying to do with the cushion. Try putting a piece of fleece or a blanket on the cushion and see what she does!

Spaying will decrease the needy behaviour and reduce cancer risk-can’t recommend it highly enough.

as for the other you are seeing, that’s what I call bunny OCD or smoothing-Kahlua has been spayed since she was young and she will still do it so I think it’s more of a comfy thing or could be a fixed action pattern probably but not sure what.

Jack I did that and omg I’ve never seen such a mad bunny before lol.

She will be getting spayed, no worries there anyone. I’m adamant on it.

I’m guessing she is just turning into a proper lady now. Thank the gods Chom has been neutered over a year. No babies to even worry about.

The only really hormonal behaviour is circling your bf. Though I’m sure there are members here that have desexed bunnies that still do this.

The others are things my buns still do a fair bit. So I think of it a bunny that’s become confident and demanding!

The digging/smoothing is like what they’d do if digging a hole outdoors. It’s cute to see them hike their butt as imaginary dirt flys under the back legs. Silly bunnies.

Finally got your video to work. So cute watching them do that. Until they start biting holes in what they’re digging…

I found this old video of Jersey doing real digging and smoothing. Hopefully it loads ok. She had been desexed for 12 months at this point.

OMG jerseygirl she is so cute there! I see the digging smoothing pattern now, so I kinda get it lol.

Thankfully the only time she does the digging and smoothing is really only on her pillow, which is hers entirely, so if she wants to bite holes she certainly can. I’ll just be a pain and patch them all up lol.

She circles and nips him and it is really funny. Chom used to try to mount my leg, and when he bit to hold on her tore holes in my legs. =( I think my horror stories have made the boyfriend very nervous around her when she circles. And my narration of “She’s going in for the kill. See how she eyes her prey?”

Lol! Gotta keep him on his toes.

I have a bun in the bedroom and he is doing the digging & biting fabric a lot at the moment. He’s going through a big moult and I find he’s extra bratty during those times. I don’t mind the digging but my bedding suffers from his teeth. I’ve sacrificed one blanket he can do as he pleases with.

He’s demanding lot of pets also.

My Yohio also does the digging an biting fabric in my bed. I have fleece blankies at the foot end for him to dig in. They are full of holes. I replace them when they get too bad. He’s been neutered 2 years (time flies!!!)

Lol. That’s exactly what I do bam. Fleece at end of bed. Throw when it’s time. I remove my quilt each day also, otherwise Timbu burrows and chews holes in the cover.

She doesn’t do it really to anywhere but her couch cushion thank the gods. The only other times I’ve noticed her doing the dig and push thing, is when we are both on the couch, and she is alone on the floor. She will jump up and do it then to the blanket on top of us, and then nudge our faces. She doesn’t do it as vigorously, as she does on her cushion, so I wonder if she is just trying to get our attention. Because once someone goes to the floor she wont do it again.
