I was wondering if any of you had noticed this with your rabbits, esp older ones (Nelli, the rabbit in question, is 7.5 years old). She was presenting with slight hind leg weakness/lack of coordination, so she is currently going into her 3rd week of Panache treatment.

The way she holds her hind legs presses against each other affects her balance- if she turns too quickly, she loses her balance. I originally noticed this because she would sometimes catch one or both back legs while jumping into her litter box, but quickly pull them,She also can’t stand up on her hind legs to beg anymore ? and sometimes when shes grooming herself with a back leg, she starts to topple over. Other than that, she is fine- gets around great, jumps up onto the couch, etc.

Has this ever happened to anyone with their rabbit, and what did it turn out to be? Thanks!

Hi Dee. I am not familiar with Panache treatments, but I would have her checked out by your vet. Since she is considered a senior bunny it could be arthritis. Good luck!

Ditto the vet exam-if this is a change you’d want that looked at as it may be a sign for further trouble, or something treatable.

            What is panache treatment?

              I think panacur auto-corrected.

Does she have E Cuniculi? We lost a bunny in April to this and it can be horrible. One of the symptoms can be neurological defects. Definitely report this to your vet.

Jersey is right- Panacur is the treatment! Sorry about that!

Barbara, I’m so sorry about your bunny. E Cuniculi is terrible, such a tricky thing to treat it seems. I’m treating Nell for it now because of her hind end issues.

We have a vet appt on Monday, so I’ll let you all know how it goes. I did notice that the balance problem varies- she was standing on her hind legs begging and grooming yesterday. Strange, I noticed my BunBuns balance was always worst after being put down from being picked up too. Must be that their equilibrium is off for a bit.

Could it be due to some arthritis or spinal abnormality? Has your vet discussed doing some X-rays Dee?

                      Hi JerseyGirl,
That’s what I was thinking, either arthritis or spondylosis. I was going to see if it improved with Metacam, but while that might tell me whether this is pain related or not, it won’t tell me what the problem is. I can’t just give her pain meds repeatedly unless we have a diagnosis and plan of action.

We have a vet appt tomorrow so hopefully we can set up some Xrays. I suppose it could be E Cuniculi related, since I feel like I’ve seen some improvement since starting the Panacur. Hopefully my vet isn’t annoyed that I just went ahead and have Nell a course of Panacur, but the lady who runs the rescue where I adopted Luke noticed Nell’s back legs right away and suggested a course of Panacur. Many rescues automatically worm their rabbits upon arrival and give a full course if clinical symptoms are present. Despite the small risk of bone marrow supression, I think it’s well worth it.
