So someone  peed on the carpet the other day, I cleaned it up best I could with the bunny-safe spray I use for the litter trays but it’s still stained. I haven’t had a chance to research something safe to remove the stain yet.

Last night someone has peed again in the same place which makes me think the smell of the spray makes them think its now a toilet!  What can I do to properly clean this up that’s not going to be toxic to the buns?

Try making a paste with water and bicarb, rub it into the area and let it dry, brush off and vacuum. Once you have all the bicarb off spritz with a little diluted white vinegar.

Nature’s Miracle odor and stain remover works really well and is sold by many pet stores.

Bunny pee spots I’ve not really had much trouble with. I keep a spray bottle of 1/2 white vinegar and 1/2 water and soak the spot really well. It seems to neutralize the reddish color pretty well, and then I just blot it up. It works better/faster if you can catch it fresh and the vinegar isn’t going to hurt the buns.

I’ve got some older stains from before I figured out the vinegar trick that have set in and the vinegar no longer works on them.

Thanks everyone! I’ve put the baking soda paste on and fenced the area off, will try vacuuming it up when I get home from work then the vinegar. No carpet wees overnight so hopefully it will be a one off (or a 2-off).

I have a lot of experience with this and I second what Cottontail said.
half vinegar, half water….spray it on the stain. Take a cloth you don’t mind ruining that’s about 3 inches thick (I just use an old towel that I have folded) and put it over the stain. Put something heavy on it…like a large book. Let it sit for 3 hours. Remove.
The stain will be completely gone…including the smell.
