today we distracted pepper and put on a bunny harness hoping we could take her for a walk we adopted her about 3 days ago and her previous owner claimed she enjoyed walking from time to time, anyways we put the harness on her and she seemed fine till we tried to walk her and she realized what was on her she then became panicked trying to take it off, I instantly became worried she was very angry my boyfriend attempted to then take off her nearness and he lunged at him angrily after that she would not let us anywhere near her, it took a while till she relaxed and even then she wouldn’t let us touch her she somehow managed to get out of the harness eventually but was still mad, I am now scared she won’t let us pet her or be near her anymore, she had been hesitant but loving the minute she got home but now I wonder will she be back to normal?

I think she will warm up to you again if you are very gentle with her and give her (small) treats and let her approach you for contact. Don’t try to pet her or hold her, let her decide when you can be trusted again. Bunnies can “hold a grudge” for a little while.

We don’t recommend harnesses here because there is quite a big a risk that the bunny hurts itself trying to escape in a fit of panic (even a bunny that’s used to a harness may panic at sudden loud sounds etc). There is a risk of serious spinal injury esp to the neck. For exercise, it’s safer to let the bunny play indoors in a bunny-proofed room.

When I was new to bunnies I tried a harness on my bunny, and he was NOT thrilled. He did forgive me after a few days, though.

You adopted her 3 days ago? She might also just need to get used to her new enviroment and care givers too. She will forgive you eventually lol just becareful with harnesses, they are pray animals and do t like being co stricted

I agree with paleosteveo that the newness of her whole situation (new home, new parents, new scents etc) probably is a factor. She needs to learn to trust you and bunnies, pray animals as they are, can be a bit slow to do that. Give her a few weeks!

Don’t feel horrible! We’ve all been new to bunnies once. You didn’t hurt her, I think she’s mostly cross.
