I’ve posted a thread a couple of weeks back about adopting a new bunny from a friend.  She’s pregnant and apparently the pregnancy stirred up a hidden allergy that she’s never had before.  They’ve had this rabbit for over a year and she never had a problem at all, but about 4 months ago she went out to brush the rabbit and had a massive allergy attack…rash, sweating, nebulizer treatment – the whole nine yards!

She messaged me on Facebook and asked if I was interested in adopting her, since she was stuck outside in a hutch all alone.  I wasn’t totally sold because Hershey had just passed and I was pretty convinced I didn’t want another bunny.  She sent me pics and I just couldn’t stop thinking about the poor girl outside by herself in the Mississippi summer heat.  She’s half fuzzy lop and I knew she had to be miserable out there.  After a week of missing each other and not being able to meet up, she delivered the little miss to our house Saturday…i’m SO GLAD we adopted her!  OMG, poor girl!  She was filthy and her hair was so matted up.  I gave her a dry-ish bath, with those pet wipes and some refresher spray and then I spent over an hour on the floor with her, cutting mats out of her hair.  I still didn’t get them all, but she has an appointment at the vet tomorrow for a shave and a nail clipping.  She was SO MAD at me that I just stopped messing with her.  For the first hour she was fine, but then she started grunting at me, and when she swiped at me, I just left her alone.  She got over it after a little while and came over to me and sat on the floor with me, but you could tell she still wasn’t totally forgiving me, lol.

She seems to be doing okay now – tonight I plan to reorganize her little area, since we are keeping her away from Toby for the moment…minimal contact from opposite sides of the bars for now.

Anyway! ;tldr – We got a new bunny, look!

        KitKat

Toby was guarding her in her teeny little cage, while I got the big cage set up for her – she’s got a pet store cage as her home base, with a barricade of cube panels around it to give her room to move.  I plan on buying a big dog crate to put in the corner and totally do away with the other cage.  Looks better, more space, and easier to clean.

She is such a beautiful little girl! I’m very glad you decided to get her and hope that the bonding (for both you and your bun!) goes well.

Last night was a pretty good night with her. Opened up her gate so she could come out and explore. She’s still pretty skittish, but she’d come up and sniff at my feet and legs while I was sitting on the floor, and she came sat next to me for a little while. Toby kept coming to the edge of his rug and reaching out, trying to get to her, but too chicken to step on the floor, LOL. I think she’s going to be a sweet, mellow girl after we are done with all the heavy-duty beauty treatments and she has a chance to chill out. She’s at the vet right now getting her nails done and her hair cut. I’m not sure if they’ll just shave her butt, or all of her underside, or what. I guess it all depends on how bad the mats are…I told them to do whatever they had to do. It’s just hair, it’ll grow back, lol.

You will have to post some pictures of her after her “beauty treatment”!

I was wondering what Toby thought of her and what does She think of him?

Oh yeah, I’ll definitely post pics of her after I pick her up.

So far, Toby seems pretty uninterested in her. He sniffed at her through her cage bars, and he’ll look at her from across the room, but I put her over closer to him (with the barrier between them) and he just kinda flopped over next to the barrier and went to sleep. So, at least he isn’t aggressive towards her. And she just sniffs at his head through the bars, haha

No aggression is a good sign! I remember when Usagi saw Kilala he wanted to kill her. Hopefully your bonding will go well!

Ah she looks great! I can tell she is cleaner I thought she was all black before I see brown highlights in her fur now! I bet she feels a lot better!

Update: She’s doing REALLY well. She stays in her corner in the pen during the day when we are gone, but I open it up as soon as I get home, and she has run of the living room. Run of the house, really, but she hasn’t ventured out of the living room yet. She and Toby are still showing zero signs of aggression towards one another, which is awesome. He’s only tried to hump her head once, LOL. She’s not nearly as scared of the slick floors as he is, so she’ll venture off her blanket and rug and hop across the room. She’s found a shelf that she can fit behind and she likes to hide back there and freak me out. Looks like I need to rearrange a little bit more.

                                        She’s taken a liking to the baby’s Exersaucer…

                                          It sounds great!

My Bam has free run of my mum’s house when we’re visiting, but he only ever uses the kitchen and living-room. Except once, when he suddenly appeared in the laundry-room at the far end of the house. Apparently laudry was boooring because he’s never ventured that far again =)

Glad she is doing well! I am sure my rabbits would love an exersaucer to explore.
