I’ve noticed over the past month or so that I’ve had Igloo, he’s capable of raising his ears to be completely erect, and holding them up for a few seconds. He tends to do it when he gets surprised, although sometimes he’ll do it to hear me on the other side of the room, raising only one ear – the one in my direction.

He’s still quite young, only three months, so I guess it could be his age? His ears just haven’t fully lopped yet? Or, is this normal, and lops can raise their ears if they want to?

My Bam (mini lop) can raise one ear straight up if he is interested in sth, he raises the one closest to the sound of interest. I’d say he’s at least 4,5 years old, but his ears are perhaps a little less short than they ought to have been if he were a show-bunny.

edit. A little SHORTER than they ought to have been, sorry, I made no sense =)

My youngest bunny, Adaggio 5 months old, has rarely ever raised his ears. My other two, Moose and Nutmeg (whom is a tattooed papered show quality bunny), have one ear up a lot and only put both ears up if they are startled or it’s really hot (over 80°). I think the buns can and depending on their personality is whether or not they do. Adaggio is totally laid back about everything. Moose is neurotic and afraid of his own shadow and Nutmeg is the boss of everyone including the peope so she is always alert. So I think that you’ll see it sometimes and not others. I think that if he always has both ears straight up you may want to figure out why as that could mean that he is uncomfortable in some way like being too hot or feeling scared of something. That’s my experience with my three bunnies so far but I’m also a newb as these are my first bunnies.

All three of my bunnies are Holland Lops and have the floppy ears.

Moshi, never. Marlee raises an ear about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up and back a little but only when she’s angry about something!

I have two holland lops, a brother and sister from a pair of show-quality purebreds, who are about 18 months old. The brother, Gizmo, has no ear control that I’ve ever seen. The sister, Gadget, has almost total ear control and almost always has one or both up. Gadget started as a ‘helicopter’ lop–one ear partly up, one ear mostly down. The breeder assured me that the ears would fall, as I’m sure most of her lops do. As Gadget got to be about 5-6 months old, she started to gain control of both. Now she frequently has both up, though occasionally she will put one part way down (or twiddle it around, as if she’s looking for a signal from the mothership). Technically, it’s a fault, so she’s not show quality, but I think she’s adorable.

I have a Holland Lop who rarely lifts his ears but every once in awhile I’ll catch him doing it.

My Lion Lop, Zoe, however……I swear, she practically walks around with one ear constantly up.  We found it hysterical for her first few months with us.  She is always bringing it fully up in the air!  It is always the one side for her though, she never raises the other one.

I have a bun that does the opposite. He is an upright/helicopter eared bunny but recently he has started to fully lop on occasion. I doubt its his age since he is a little over a year old. One of his parents was a lop and the other wasn’t. He has always been able to lop one ear and keep the other up, or go helicopter but just recently he has started lopping both
