Hi everyone. Sorry if this is a repetitive topic, it’s just that I can’t tell you how many times I’ve looked through the list of official breeds, hoping I’d find a match!

Could you help me identify Thumper’s breed for me? Here is a link with various pictures and videos to help you. https://instagram.com/thumperstagram/ I’d much appreciate any help! He is 5 years old so he is fully grown. Thank you!

Oh, he looks like LoveChaCha’s bunny. What kind is she, guys?

I believe she is a false dwarf Nethie. Her coloring is black otter.

Yeah she does look like that. Her fur look almost Rex-like in some photos. Maybe mini Rex cross too???

I agree her colour/pattern is black otter plus she has the cutest little Vienna marks on her nose and toes. She’s a cutie!

I love the pic of her looking at the cat thru the window. Lol
And her as a baby! <3

She is a bit of a stumper.

Her coat is very shiny, so maybe a satin. I double checked, and otter is an acceptable color for satins.

Hi everybun, thank you for the replies!

I won’t tell Thumper you called him a she, he’s very sensitive about his masculinity since being snipped!  He sulked for hours when he saw that I bought him a pink grooming brush!

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is a false dwarf? Is that meaning a Nethie cross?

I thought Rex breeds had to have the short, plush, velvet fur and short, curly whiskers? Or can they still have the gene without the obvious characteristics?

@Jerseygirl – Thank you! He is a little sweetheart. Thumper and my mum’s cat were stood at the back door for ages staring at each other, Thumper was staring at him without the cat knowing and when he turned round, he looked startled at finding a black fluffball with big ears staring at him!

@Eepster – Just looked up Satin on Google, are they always that big? I’m not sure how much Thumper weighs but I always thought he was one of the smaller breeds.

                  Again, thanks everybun!

                    I didn’t call Thumper a “she”. I was talking about LoveChaCha’s bunny.

A false dwarf Nethie is a purebred Nethie that lacks the dwarfism gene. The chances of not having the dwarfism gene are 1 in 4. If these individuals come from a professional breeder, they are often sold as “pet quality”. There is absolutely nothing wrong with them as far as house bunnies are concerned.

I agree with Eepster about the coat. It does look satin-y. There is a mini satin too.

Oops! Sorry Thumper, you handsome manly bun you.

LBJ, I thought you were were referring to Thumper & RP’s “what kind is she guys?” threw me off too. :/

So we’ve establish his sex but not his breed, right?

LOL, yes, we have definitely established that he is a he.
Hmm, is there a picture that helps with size reference so we can see how big he is?

Umm, Do you mean a type of picture with him standing near something for size reference or like a picture of him standing up straight on his back legs? I often think bunnies can go from big to small looking in different pictures depending on how they position themselves

Edit: https://instagram.com/p/5SYejhmZlx/?taken-by=thumperstagram This may help a bit, you can kind of see how much space he takes up on the settee. (He’s an awkward bunny )

I managed to weigh Thumper the other day (much to his disapproval ) and he weighs 4.3lbs in case that helps identifying his breed/s mixture.

Oh wow, what a big boy! Well, for a nethie anyway. LOL That doesn’t mean he isn’t mixed with nethie though. I’m leaning toward that because mini satins don’t come in otter. But I suppose he could be a satin mixed with something that does come in that color.

He does look like a false netherland dwarf. (Obviously black otter colored but I think we have that down ) A show quality netherland dwarf is 2 pounds with 2 1/2 being max I believe. A false dwarf could potentially be 4 pounds I guess. Especially if he’s mixed with something else.

Well whatever he is, he sure is pretty!

It’s crazy to think that when I’m holding him, I’m holding the equivalent in weight of two adult Nethies.

                                    And thank you Moxie!

I don’t know whether it’s possible to search for users on this forum or not, but does anyone know how to contact ‘LoveChaCha’ to ask about their bunny’s weight in comparison to Thumper’s?

Mel94— On the right side of the page when you scroll up there is a spot where you can click the logos for facebook, twitter ect. to share. Well right above that there it says “members”. Click on that and you should be able to search for her.

I know, it’s crazy about the size differences in rabbit! My bun is about 8.5 pounds, which would be about 4 adult netherland dwarf rabbits!
