Hey guys. I have been trying to figure out what litter to buy for my bunnies.I recently was using stallion bedding, because I was told that it was okay for bunnies. Recently my bunny started sneezing so I googled the litter. Turns out it has some pine in it. So I am currently looking into getting a different type of litter before my bunny gets sick. I’m trying to be cost effective. I’ve heard to use Yesterdays News, Hard wood pellets, Feline Pine (doesnt that have pine in it..?), Carefresh (someone said it made their bunny sneeze).. I really dont know what to choose. Considering Hard Wood pellets because its cheaper and seems to be reliable? Any opinions? Things to look out for?

If you can get hard wood pellets cheap, then I’d go with that. Yesterday’s news is a good product as well although a little less absorbant than the hardwood pellets if your bunny pees alot.

We use aspen pellets with a thin layer of Carefresh on top and use the litter screens from the Binky Bunny store (these have cut our litter use way down!). Carefresh can get really expensive as can Yesterday’s News if you go through alot of litter. I personally would avoid feline pine, the smell is too strong for me. Some members here do use horse stall pellets.

There’s nothing wrong with using pine PELLETS, pine shavings on the other hand contain phenols which are harmful. The phenols are removed from the pellets during the production process. As long as you stick to pellets, you’re fine. We use horse stall pellets as well.

I use wood stove pellets. Excellent absorption, low cost, can be used as fertilizer/soil improvement in gardens when the bunny is done with it.

If you are looking for cheaper than go with pellets. I personally have never tried those I use Carefresh and really like it. I try and stock up on it when I see it on sale. The Tractor Supply store is where I have found it to be the cheapest in my area.

I use a generic paper litter from Petsmart. I stay away from CareFresh, which I used to love, due to the company adding baking soda to the formula. I’ve read a lot of animals dying or getting really sick from respiratory issues.

Olly has a special litter, which is a wood pellet non clumping, for animals with allergies, £6.50 a big bag from Pets at Home, it has a picture of a cat on it, but I asked 4 workers there if it was safe, they said yes and it is so easy to clean and I’ve stopped sneezing too.
