I was out last night and spent the night at my SO’s.  My parents watch my rabbit when I’m gone.  Well this morning my parents heard a huge crash in my room and went to see what it was.  My rabbit somehow knocked the contents off my night stand breaking my tea set and God knows what else onto the floor.  They didn’t tell me until I met them at church.  The way they told me it happened made it seem like only the plate broke and everything else is fine.  When I walked into my room after church, everything on the table was on the floor! Even a roll of bubba-bubba gum tape.  I think she ate a good amount of it.  I don’t know when she ingested it but she is eating alright and I saw her use the restroom.  I’m going to monitor her but I could use advice.  Would digestive supplements work to help move the gut along?

I looked up the ingredients and it does not contain Xylitol which I hear is toxic. None of the vets that are savvy in rabbits are open on sundays.

Her stomach acid will likely dissolve the gum. Give her hay and water, monitor poop and appetite. Bunnies often eat strange things.

Thank you Bam, for your words of encouragement. She is still doing fine. She is eating tons of hay, she flopped and has been playing with her toys. Resting of course because its her “bed time”.

I think she’ll be fine. I’ve heard people say that dogs and even people could die from swallowing gum, that it clogs up the intestines. This is an absolute myth. Rabbits are of course more sensitive but they too have stomach acid and enzymes that can degrade lots of stuff like pieces of gym shoes and hot water bottles and broom-bristles. You could ask my bunny my Yohio about this but he will probably deny it ever happened.

We’ve heard of a few bunnies eating gum here on BB. As far as I know, they were okay. Just monitor closely for a couple f days and make sure she eats lots of wet greens and hay.

Thank you all. I heard papaya and pinnacle helps ease stomach pains. Can anybody second this?

If you think she might have gas baby gas drops help with that. Does she have her tummy against the ground? I have found Usagi laying like that usually in his litter box that’s when I know he has gas. I have given him the infant gas drops and within an hour he was better. Now he even lets me give him tummy rubs.

I haven’t seen her do this yet. Ive been giving her tummy rubs every once in a while through out the day, but she hates it. Are you suppose to put some pressure into the rubs?

Here’s a video someone posted once. Maybe it’ll help?

Magabunny- I love those videos! They always help.

One day down. Still doing fine eating/drinking and pooping/peeing normally. Behavior is normal as well.

That video is what helped me deal with Usagi’s gas issues. Thank you megabunny for posting that!

I am glad t o hear she is doing good!

Thanks! I had such a scare not too long ago. She was passed out and looked like she was almost dead. I rarely see her do this so it scared me a little. My parents and bf thinks I’m ridiculous for freaking out about the situation. My mom even said “she is just an animal”.

There’s nothing “just” about your beloved pets
The first time I saw my bunny In a full flop my heart nearly stopped. When I saw my other bunny actually do a full “young bunny flop” I thought he had a seizure of some kind and would die. Bunnies live to scare the wits out of their owners

Talk about going into a panic with things bunnies do, I actually called an emergency vet because my Olly was eating loads and loads of hay the first night I got him.

Wow pinky! What went through your mind in that situation? I would think that is normal…

This is Fuji… scaring the poop out of me.

                                          Well that didn’t work =(

No such thing as “just an animal.” I get so angry when people say that.

Yeah I didn’t appreciate my mom saying that. She knows how I feel about my bunny and other animals too. I’m happy to say Fuji is fine! Little booger is always giving me stress =P I don’t know if I will be able to do any more sleep overs though. She seemed to have been upset.
