I’ve had my bunny for about 5-6 months.  She can be quite vocal.  I had another rabbit as a kid, and I don’t recall her every making a peep.  My new rabbit has a few different sounds, and I’m not sure exactly what they mean.  She does a grunting sound, which seems to me to mean she’s mildly annoyed.  Then she has a few different sort of higher pitched squeaky sounds, which remind me more of when my dogs whine.  I don’t know how to describe the sounds better than that.  She does a squeaky sound when I pick her up sometimes.  She made all kind of higher pitched sounds when she went to stay with my friend for a few days, and I’m guessing the sounds meant she was stressed out.  Can someone help me to interpret?  Also, do rabbits have happy noises?  What are good ways to tell if the rabbit is happy?

Some bunnies are more vocal than others. You have to interpret the sounds in context, the way you are doing. Here’s video of a bunny making a disgruntled sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWkmEhNYVF0

My Yohio growls like a very small dog when he’s angry. It’s a hilarous sound because it’s so aggressive and he’s so fluffy and cute =)It’s like the bunny in this vid, but more of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OycSzdxCKQE

My Bam sometimes has made sobbing little noises but I never figured those out.

Here’s a video with a bunny making happy little sounds, but I don’t know if it’s real:

Any grunts are perfectly normal, and can be either affection or annoyance. I haven’t heard high pitched sounds before, so I wonder if she may be a little sensitive in a spot you are holding. If she hasn’t had a check up by a vet yet, it might be a good idea in case the squeak is some discomfort. If she has been examined recently and is ok, then she is just vocalizing. As Bam said, continue to pay attention to the circumstances. (I called Sammy “Miss Growly Pants” due to her favorite complaint noise.)

Bunnies tend to make the high pitched when they are scared. My rabbit makes a “crying” kind of noise when he gets his nails trimmed

My Bugsy often makes whimpering sounds or honks when he eats his pellets in the morning. This is an happy noise.

The surest happy sound I know is the tooth-purr. If you pet a bunny on its head it will often tooth-purr and you can both hear it and fell it in your fingers. Other signs of a happy bunny is flopping and binkies and zoomies.
