We have two bunnies (neutered male and female), who live together in a large cage. They get let out for a run around the house every day. They love being out so much and are both very friendly bunnies, but one of them hates being picked up. She runs away and struggles when we do catch her. This is a problem as we have to pick her up to get her out! We can’t put a door in the cage because they rattle it at the crack of dawn and wake everyone up. Besides, she needs to be picked up sometimes anyway (e.g. if we need to clip her nails), so she needs to get used to it.She’s a 2 and a half year old female, and is very hyperactive. She is very friendly when she’s out, and will come and sit with us so I don’t think it’s because she’s scared of us or doesn’t like us.

        Please help!

Sounds like a normal bunny to me. Many don’t like to be picked up. You could try bribing with food but other than that, I don’t have any ideas.

Most bunnies hate being picked up. It’s a deep instinct. In nature, a bunny that gets picked up gets eaten.

You of course have to pick your bunny up anyway, to clip nails etc, but the bunny most likely will never appreciate it.

My two hate being picked up as well. I tried really hard to train them when they were babies to tolerate being picked up but it didn’t work. I use a small towel or blanket to put over mine to pick them up. The vet taught me that trick. Its the best way I can pick mine up if I have to.

My bunny is also very terrified of being held, so we never pick him up. He needs to get nail clippings every month, so we just bribe him inside the travel carrier with his favorite food, bananas and take him to the animal shelter to get his nails clipped. The shelter people are very experienced with bunnies like him, so when he does get picked up by them, he rarely struggles (probably because he feels their calmness and gentleness). I would suggest luring your rabbit out with his/her favorite food.
