I have a tiny little lop eared rabbit names Snuggi. He is usually very very playful and loves to run around and try to get our attention. But today I noticed he was acting very weird.

It’s summer time and it’s hot out so I know my bunny must be hot and tired, but the second I bring him into the house he’s full of energy and hops around the house everywhere. When I go to get him out of his cage he runs to the back and waits patiently for me to get him. Whenever I give him knew water, hay, or food he always hops right over to drink it, play in it, or eat it. But this afternoon I refilled his water, food, and gave him fresh hay and he just sat in the front of his cage without reacting. Then, I noticed a carrot from the night before that he had yet to eat, and he always eats his carrots.

I assumed he was just tired so I went to bring him in. Usually I have to open the front of his cage before he goes to the back (most people think my rabbit doesn’t want to be taken from his cage, but he never hops back to the front when I open the back) but today he just sat in the front. He let me grab him and didn’t try hopping to the back.

Then I brought him inside and he was still acting weird. Usually he hops around and looks in his indoor food dishes for something to eat, but he just hopped right under the coffee table and layed down. (Sorry if this next part doesn’t make sense). We live in a one floor house and there is a door leading to the hallway with out bedrooms, and that door must be closed or else Snuggi makes a dash for my sisters bedroom, today he didn’t try to go there at all.

Another thing Snuggi loves to do is eat our broom, so the laundry room door is always closed because we don’t want him destroying the broom, but he didn’t even try to get into the kitchen once today. We also have this super fuzzy blanket that Snuggi will chase for hours if we drag it along the floor, and he’s quick to hop to, or even jump onto your lap, when someone uses it. But when I brought it out he didn’t react at all.

I know my bunnies behavior very well, and he just seemed so different today and I’ve never seen him act like this. Does anyone know what may have gotten into him or why he’s acting like this. He’s only one years old by the way, I don’t know if age has anything to do with it.

A bunny not eating is an onservandum. It may be onset of GI stasis. Has he peed and pooped? You should try and massage his tummy a little. Baby gas drops (simethicone) can be given. I don’t know what time you have, it’s still Sunday here, but if he doesn’t come around after a tummy rub, you should contact a vet.

I’m writing from my phone so I don’t have access to links here, but please google ileus hare and you’ll find a great article on stasis. Google bunny tummy massage and yo’ll find a nice you tube video on how to do a tummy rub.

So he started acting normal again the next day and I think I found the solution.
My dad fed him a lot of carrots and blueberries the day before he started acting weird (my dad thinks you can feed bunnies anything and they’ll be ok, but I’ve told him multiple times that no, you cannot feed him lots of sweets) while I was at my moms house. I’m not sure but could his behavior be the result of a tummy ache? Can bunnies get stomach aches and will blueberries seriously affect him? I’ve looked it up a couple times but different websites tell me different things

Bunnies can definitely get tummy aches and gas pain. They have sensitive stomachs. Blueberries are fine, but as with all new food items, they should be introduced slowly and due to the sugar-content, never be fed in large amounts.

So glad he’s back to normal now!
