Ok I know we here on BB are no stranger to poop talk so here goes.

I am going to apologize in advance if this makes no sense at all. New meds make me dumber than a sack of potatoes.

Moonshine seems to not be the type of bunny to take kindly to change and I am wondering if this is just his body’s reaction to a change in diet or stress.

I do have pictures but my SD card is being uncooperative so I am going to do my best to describe his poops.

They are huge and while he is a giant breed bunny they are very big for his body. They are well formed and look like normal poops. But they are soft. There are some normal poops throughout but for the most part they are mushy. They are a normal color but they smell horrible. They almost smell as bad as a cecal but not quite as bad.

Could this be from changing his food/stress or is it something I should bring up to the vet?

How old is he? It sounds similar to coccidia poop but that’s pretty rare except in younger bunnies. You could always drop off a fresh poop sample at the vet and let them check it out. I know he’s new to you, but was he given a thorough checkup with a vet before he came to you?

One other thought…. was there enough blood from the bloody noses for him to ingest?

And another…. what was his diet like before he came to you? If he was primarily pellets and now he’s eating huge salads, that change could cause mushies but I wouldn’t think it would cause the poop to be that smelly.

His actual age is unknown but he is estimated 10-11 weeks old. I am going to drop a fresh sample off Monday just to be on the safe side. He was given a thorough checkup before and after he came to me. Nothing was found other than his poor eyesight. No when he got the bloody noses it was only enough blood for me to notice that he was bleeding but not enough for him to ingest anything.

Before he came to me the shelter was feeding him Wild Harvest. He was basically picking out all of the seeds and colorful bits in Wild Harvest and eating them. I haven’t given him any greens and I have been slowly transitioning him to Oxbow.

I have noticed over the course of today that the more hay I get him to eat the firmer his poops get.

I’ve gotten a picture of upload. Like I said they look normal but they are mushy almost rubbery feeling. The hair on it is from me dropping it on my cat. (Poor cat)

Considering his age, definitely get fecal test for coccidia first.

Your description sounds a lot like “cow poop syndrome” bunnies get. It’s often described as “marshmellowy” poop.
BUT usually the symptoms don’t present this young in rabbits with this syndrome. He also doesn’t have colouration of those typically afflicted but it can occur in rabbits of various colours.

Starsky usually has those after bok choy.

His poops keep going back and forth between normal and big mushy poops. The more hay I get into him the more normal his poops are but the second I give him any pellets his poops get big and mushy. But he’s got an appointment for the vet Monday evening so she will have a fecal done when I bring him in.

His vet appointment unfortunately got pushed. The vet ended up having an emergency of her own after being kicked by a horse. He will be going in tomorrow morning.

It is a battle to get him to eat hay. He wants nothing to do with it at all. And now he has caught on that I put his pellets into the hay so he just digs all of the hay out of the box to get to the pellets.

I dropped him at the vet this morning and made the long drive back home to go to work. I will hopefully get good news.

Hope the vet visit went well.

Sorry for not updating sooner! I have been able to access the forum but not post for some reason. His visit went very well. There was nothing abnormal and his poops were found to be very healthy. All of the tests came back negative. The vet said it is likely a combination of the very poor quality food the shelter was feeding him, the stress of a new home, his refusal to eat hay, and transitioning him to eat a new food.

His poops are becoming more and more uniform as the days go on. I am trying orchard grass hay right now which he is a little more willing to eat (and is a little more friendly on my hay allergies lol) and it is helping as well.

But he is otherwise a hyper floppy little dude. Unlike Ollie who was slow moving Moonshine is fast moving and has gotta a couple of booboo’s on the tips of his ears even with his short filed toenails.

Yay! Glad to hear he is healthy and the problem is getting better.
