Here is my little vent/rant for the day.

I’m a nurse, a pediatric nurse.    I have a severe allergy to cats and dogs.  By severe I mean when I was allergy tested I had to have several medications and a rescue inhaler after my test because of my reaction.  When we found this out we went and visited the wmen who eventually sold us goose.

However as the story goes another nurse at work has complained that she is severely allergic to rabbits and that I am making her have sneezing fits and all this stuff from bringing in rabbit hair on my clothes.  Goose is only allowed on our first floor.  All my clothes are upstairs.  We have a zoned AC system so the upstairs and downstairs are  run by different systems with their own filter and duct work.  I eat dinner and then head upstairs and shower and get completely ready for work.  I come down make my lunch and go.  Basically I have no other way to reduce the amount of hair on my scrubs short of changing in the car!

I feel like this is all fear of the unknown.  I mentioned i am SEVERELY allergic to cats and dogs which several of our nurses own and I have no issue getting report.

any who. I am just venting I feel like this nurse is picking on me for my “Weird” pet.  she is the only one who acts like this.

Stuff an envelope with bunny fur and ask one of tge others that you consider a friend to carry it in their pocket and to make a point of seeking out her company. At the end of the day when she hasn’t reacted wait for the biggest audience you can find and expose the fur plant. Make sure you take pics during the day of her interacting with the fur bomb carrier.

Roberta’s suggestion is great! It will make the complaining nurse lose face, though, which can be very traumatic for some people.

Tell her you’ve re-homed your bunny.

I’m severely allergic to cats. I don’t pester others about it. It’s my problem, not other people’s.

What! Why are people so ridiculous.

I would do what Bam has said (I like Roberta’s idea too) and tell her that you have had to rehome Goose and see if her ‘sneezing fits’ suddenly stop now she thinks you no longer have a bun.

As much as I feel for you, I don’t recommend that you try this fur envelope idea!! Even if this person is faking a rabbit allergy you and your friend could get in serious trouble, which won’t make up for the satisfaction you might feel doing this.

Instead, document (e-mail is good for this, even if it is an e-mail to yourself) incidences of this behaviour. If it is persistent, it could be grounds for you to file a complaint of harassment. Then, if the allergy turns out to be fake, she will be the one getting disciplinary action.

I forgot to add, your documentation should include dates, times, witnesses, etc., and be very detailed.

It sounds like you work in a very intense and serious work environment so I would not suggest that you do as Roberta says – it is not professional and you need to take the high road here. You should bring your concerns to your immediate supervisor if you feel harassed. I imagine your hospital has protocols and rules for this and that is the road to take.

I’m not certain if it constitutes harassment on her part or not but that is why going about it the right way is the right way. It sounds like you are following protocol to me as far as bringing any allergens into the pediatric floor…

No don’t do Bunny fur in an envelope, if she is allergic and has a very bad reaction, so bad she cannot talk, you would have to tell your Boss what happened, or the envelope could accidently drop on a patients bed and they could be allergic to rabbits and you go away for a few minutes to write down something and come back to a child with Hives and breathing difficulties, this nurse may just have hay fever and doesn’t realise.

I’m not so sure I would do the fur in the envelope thing. I feel like it could lead to trouble. Although I do like the idea in theory, but not sure if it is appropriate for your line of work. I WOULD however tell her you re-homed your rabbit. If the complains stop then you know she might have just been lying.

Actually there are people who can have an allergic fit at the thought of encountering sth they are allergic to. I have seen this. I was working at the front desk and we had a green potted plant on the counter. A new patient came in and spotted the plant, became short of breath and had to fumble for her astma-meds, she was OUTRAGED that we had such a highly allergenic plant in the reception area.

I apologized and immediately shoved the plant into a storage-room and closed the door. It was a fake plant. I didn’t want to confront her with being wrong, this may not sit well with mentally unstable people. (I didn’t know this person, so I had no idea if she was a total nut). If she’d threatened to report us, I would of course have told her it was plastic, but she seemed happy with my apologies.

ha! Don’t worry ya’ll I won’t be bringing in any envelopes full of rabbit hair!  I take all my stuff upstairs and change up there right before work for a reason.

This was just intended to be a small rant! not a way to execute revenge although I know where to come if I need some justice

Ok!!! But you can see how we take bunny ownership very seriously here! Nobody puts a bunny owner in a corner when there are BBers around =)
