I have been plucking Felix, helping him shed his winter coat. The fur was coming off very easily, but I think I might have accidentally done too much. He has a bald spot in the back. I wasn’t going hard, and it was fluffing off. Is this normal or was I too aggressive?

          Hello felix

Rabbit shed off their winter coat in hot summers that’s probably a slow process I guess…Hazel here has been shedding since 3 weeks n it seems no ending

but literally pulling off by you is not really the right way to help him fluff away his winter coat. This though helpful may certain times seem painful to ur bunny …Rather use a proper grooming brush instead . That way u ensure his proper grooming along with making it a comfortable n better experience for ur bun.

(Try n groom him atleast twice in a day)

Felix, sometimes bunnies shed in patches. It makes them look positively mangy, but for bunnies it’s normal. If he wasn’t protesting when you were pulling his fur off, it was already loose.

So I don’t think you need to worry.

I saw on YouTube by a bunny…guru? That you can Gently pull at the lose fur to get it off. I normally run my fingers through his fur with a very slight resistance to gather the fur. His old fur turns white when its ready to come out, so I figured it was OK. I’m just going to get a better comb so as to not take any chances.

You absolutely can gently pluck out furs. Some bunnies prefer that to being brushed or combed. If the hair hadn’t come loose already, you couldn’t get it out unless you tugged very hard at it. That would obviously be very cruel and awful. But plucking out lose hair-tufts isn’t cruel. I often do that on my bunnies when they are shedding and they don’t seem to mind. It’s good to remove loose hair so the bunny doesn’t ingest it while grooming itself.
