Hi, my name is Shabrina and I live in Savannah, GA. I have 4 rabbits. Previously I had only 1 rabbit but a month ago ( 24 May 2015 ) I adopted 3 rabbits. A bonded pair and a mini rex. I have no problem with my mini rex, she is very clean and has good litter skill. But the bonded pair ( lion head and dutch ) no matter how hard I try, seems like they never get it. I’ve been trying until now but no result. I sat with them for 3 hours, nobody pee or pooped, then I went to the bathroom for 5 mins, I came back with poop and pee all over. It’s been like that since they move in. I don’t like to see them in <g class="gr_ gr_38 gr-alert gr_gramm Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="38" data-gr-id="38">laundry</g> room since I let my rabbit run around at home.<br>
I need somebody that can help to train them and I am willing to pay for it. Please let me know if somebody can help it.

These things can happen with rabbits, they sometimes lose their good litter-box habits when they encounter other rabbits in their “territory”. Sometimes it stops or become less frequent. Were the bonded couple litter-trained before you got them? Have they been bonded for a long time? Newly bonded buns may have lousy toilet-habits because they still mark their territory even if they’ve become friends. (Perhaps you don’t have this info, since they were adopted)

I don’t know of anybody that litter-box trains rabbits.

Shabrina – the fact that they waited 3 hours until you were gone suggests they may not be comfortable toileting in front of you. So you may need to try and set them up for success when you aren’t there. They may need more time to become comfortable with you.

            What exactly have you tried?

Are they separate from the other 2 buns? Have you go their litter tray set up so they can only access their hay when they are in their litterbox?

That’s the problem, I don’t know whether they’ve been litter trained previously or not. They’ve been bonded for 2 years. When I got them I thought that since they had a home previously so they should be litter trained but I guess they aren’t.

I guess they are pretty comfortable with me since they are ok to eat when I am with them even though Emma doesn’t like to be touched. Oh yes, I separate them from the other 2 rabbits. They have space. And I’ve tried to put them in a confine area where they basically only have litter box and food and little bit of space but I give them time out to stretch out every couple of hours. Then I basically put litter box on every space they have, so they hop from box to box. I sit with them and wait like I’ve said before. Nothing works.

Yes, I always put hay on the litter box for every rabbits I have. Litter box is the only way they can access their hay. And since all the things I’ve tried failed, then I tried to put all the food (green, pellets, treat) and water inside the litter box, they still poop and pee out side the litter box. So I don’t know what’s wrong.

Have you tried changing the litter you are using? There may be something about the litter that they dont like.

Also just because they eat in front of you that doesn’t mean they are comfortable to toilet in front of you. Have you ever seen them toilet? ie: have they ever done it in your presence?
