I have had my bunny, Henry, for a little over a year now, and he is a complete cuddle bunny. He will sit and watch an entire movie with me and melts for pets and cuddles. He just loves attention. That being said, I am a college student with a very busy schedule. Some days, Henry does not get the quality time that he deserves because of my schedule. He has a large condo that I built, gets fresh veggies every day, and has TONS of toys and beds throughout his condo, but I am afraid that he gets lonely when I am not around. Before I got Henry, he was bonded to another bunny and one of his babies. I just feel like he would like some company.

So, I am considering getting another bunny from the local shelter. I would love another bunny, but I know the bonding process can be complicated. Plus, I would be heartbroken if Henry’s personality changed. I just need some opinions and advice on what to do. I really do not want little Henry to be lonely.

        Here’s a picture of Henry

          Henry is adorable!

Many bunnies do appreciate a bunny friend. It’s best if you can let your bunny choose his companion himself, sometimes shelters allow that.

I don’t know about personality-changes. But here are plenty of other members who I’m sure will love to tell you about their experiences!

Fair word of warning coming from a just graduated college student- bonding is a LOT of work and is pretty close to undoable on a college student schedule. So my advice is no. Here is what led me to my decision not to get a second bunny. Over summer bonding may be certainly doable, but keep in mind some bonding can go from 6 months to a year. So you would need to be prepared to have 2 separate condos in your apartment, you would have to split your time with both bunnies and ensure they each have separate and adequate free run during the day on top of your classes (thats a lot to balance). Also, be prepared to deal (hopefully not, but most likely) with a lot of poor litter box habits. In a small apartment like I had my sophomore year through Senior year, that can be VERY smelly, and you may be needing to clear 2 times a day. This all, on top of course loads, partying with friends, etc. is a lot. Personally, I would just get a stuff doll for now, and what I did as get Lilith a doggie exercise pen and attached it to her condo as a “front yard.” This did a wonders for her because I could leave the condo pen open all day and she could go and run around her 4×4 pen. This ensures she won’t get as bored (just make sure they can’t jump out).

This is about all the help i can give . P.S. I LOVE Henry, truly a gorgeous bun!

Henry is sooo cute and snuggable!!

I would definitely look into letting Henry pick his mate as well. We got Shamrock for the Pumpkin for the same reasons you are describing. There are days where we are gone from 7 AM to 10 PM. I was feeling bad for Pumpkin being all alone (she’s a snuggle bunny too).

From my experience, Pumpkin’s personality didn’t change. She is still a sweet snuggle bunny who accepts pets from humans or grooming from Rocky; whoever happens to be closest to her. She is less afraid of things and seems more at ease than before. There are some bonded pairs who only care about each other though and don’t feel the need to seek out human attention. I feel like you and Henry have a pretty solid bond though and he’d still appreciate a human snuggle session now and then. Maybe you’d get lucky with two snuggle buns?!
