Hello All! Monica is driving me nuts! When we bring her out to play, we have a giant moving blanket that she runs around on and we play with her. We started using the moving blanket when we first got her because she wasn’t spayed (she was only 2 months old) and if she had an accident, it would be on the blanket versus our bed/carpet/wherever. She was spayed a little over a month ago and we have noticed over the past two or three weeks, she has started to dig at the blanket and eat the thread. Of course, we try to stop her from eating it and I offer her hay, but she throws it to the side and a few moments later tries to eat the threading again! This is so abnormal and she never did it before. She even tries eating my husbands pants now! It’s so odd to us. And it isn’t like we don’t have toys and things for her to play with. Plus we play with her too! Does anyone know why she could be doing this? And how can I get her away from doing this?00000000000000000000000000 <------ 0's by Monica jumping on my laptop Love her so much

Many rabbits love to chew on cloth items. Some rabbits are worse chewers of household items than others. Both my husband and I have clothes with holes in them due to various rabbits we have had over the years. Rabbits also have a digging instinct, so Monica isn’t really doing anything unusual. Many rabbits prefer pulling up carpet or chewing on textiles instead of playing with any toys that you have for them. You can try saying “no” in a loud voice and pulling her away from where she is chewing, but she will likely go back and keep doing it. If you have any old phone books, you could see if those might divert her attention. Rabbits like to rip the pages out. You could also give her a cardboard box filled with shredded paper to dig in and see if that might interest her.

Bunnies love to chew blankets and things, some more than others. Chewing and digging is a natural behavior that you can’t really get out of them. My only advice, really, is to remove the things you don’t want her to chew. You should try a diggy box like tobyluv suggested or even just a cardboard box, upside down with a door and window cut out of it. My buns love to “bunstruct” cardboard houses.

I can only agree with what Tobyluv and LPT have already said. I have one of those bunnies who likes to chew fabric. I give him cheap IKEA-type fleece blankies – they don’t have threads that can cause stomach trouble if he ingests some. Cardboard hidey-houses are great too, there’s sth about ripping cardboard apart (“bunstruction”!) that seems to appeal to rabbits. My rabbit also likes to pull a whole big blankie into his cardboard house, then pull it out again and start over. It seems pointless to me, but to him, it’s obviously important work.
