I have been posting here a lot recently. Olive is going through a rough patch and I’m beginning to think this may be it for him…..
Today Olive has been making weird chewing motions with his mouth. It’s like something is stuck in his mouth…. He barely ate last night and today will eagerly eat his treats but not much else. He’ll start to eat a piece of lettuce but then drop it. What is this??
The vet checked his teeth last Thursday and gave the all clear.
        He’s also been very lethargic.

He sounds bad. I’m sorry to say this, but my families last 2 bunnies did this right before they passed. Please prepare for the worst

How is Olive today ? Have you been back to the vet or spoken to them about the mouth movement ?

It’s 5am here and Olive seems to have taken a turn for the worse. He hasn’t eaten over night and is sitting hunched up. The vet is supposed to call me today with blood results. I’m going to speak with her about possibly ending Olives pain. He’s been on motility drugs for almost a week and still has managed to decline. He doesn’t seem happy at all. Any input about when its you know it’s time would be helpful. I haven’t slept all night…

I just let Olive out of his cage. He pooped a bunch when he came out…
He will only eat crunchy things….pellets, celery and apple. I would really really appreciate any ideas about what is going on.

Hopefully the blood work will show something but I would do some hand feeding to supplement.

The vet just called. Nothing wrong with his blood work. Since he seems to be having mouth problems she recommended that we sedate him and look deeper in to his mouth. It’s scheduled for tomorrow morning. There is a chance that he may not make it through…considering his age. If he does there is a chance that he may not recover. However, our only other option is to wait and hope his mouth problem clears up on its own. I’m so scared and not sure I’ve made the right choice by opting to do the procedure. I’d like to know what other bunny parents would do in this situation.

As you know, dental issues are often the root and origin of lots of other problems. If I understand it correctly, he’s had a pretty bad bout of stasis and only just started to poop again. It wouldn’t be far-fetched to think that his teeth are behind it. Even very small spurs can be very painful to some rabbits (I have one of those rabbits). If this is the case, I think you’ll need to have this procedure done sooner or later, or he will inevitably suffer and that’s of course unacceptable to a loving bunny-owner.

I do so sympathize with you and your concerns. It’s sickening to not know if you’re doing the right thing or not when it comes to your pet. I’m sorry that I’m of no help. These decisions are so hard. My thoughts are with you.
