hello everyone so, my boyfriend and I have had our lop-ear rabbit for about 9 months.. she is an outdoor rabbit (we keep her in a hutch, but she spends at least 5 to 6 hours per day roaming the yard-under supervision of course). well we just came back from a 9 day vacation to find that she suddenly has a relatively sizeable bald patch on her nose! my boyfriend had many rabbits growing up and he can’t remember ever seeing this with any of them.. I’ve done extensive googling and can’t seem to find a definite answer on what it could be…
and just to clarify – the only interaction she’s had with any other animals was playing with my bf’s dad’s dog that we were babysitting the week before we left for our trip. she let him lick her a bunch, but no fur was noticeably missing afterwards.. and we had a neighbor come over almost every day that we were gone to feed her and let her out to play…
any idea what could have caused this?? any insight would be greatly appreciated!

        THANK YOU!

I would check for possible ringworm. Working at a pet store, this is common to see that the affected area will lose all its hair in that spot, but check to see if the skin looks normal. Now she may not have been interacting with other animals, but being outside can very easily let this happen. Just take her to the vet to double check.

Has the fur began to grow back?

I suppose its possible for it to be bacterial infection. Not neccesarily any bugs from the dogs mouth but just from the moist environment the licking would have created.

            As mentioned, ringworm possibility also.

A friend of mine with a trio of rabbits once had them all missing some fur on top of their noses. Turned out it was from them trying to get to some pellets that had been spilled on other side of their enclosure. They were sticking their noses against the wiring so much.
