Hi all!  I’m relatively “new” here, I’ve just been lurking around for about a year, but now I have a question

My Hershey is currently recovering from a bout of poopy butt…it’s taken us a while to get through it, but finally he seems to be mostly back to normal.  He’s got dental issues, so it’s a recurring theme for us.  Problem is, now his fur is all stained and gross.  I’ve given him butt baths to try and wash it clean, but it just stays brown.  Is there a rabbit-safe whitening shampoo I can use?  Should I just take him to the vet and have them shave his bum and hope the hair grows back white?

        Thanks in advance!

What about diluted vinegar? Staining takes a while to come out.

I may have to give that a try…I use it to clean their stuff, so it can’t hurt to test it out and try to clean HIM, haha

Having the vet do a sanitary shave would probably help keep him clean.

I definitely think I’m going to take him to the vet on Monday, just to get a shave and a tooth-trim.  At least it’ll be easier for me to wash him off, if he’s shaved.

Nothing wrong with a sanitary shave. It won’t cause his fur to change color or anything. So if he had white fur back there, it will grow back white. Just remember that it takes awhile for the fur to grow back.
