Daisy had her babies on May 30th, theyll be 2 weeks old this saturday. Her droppings are larger than usual, soft and puffy, almost the size of Junior Mints, and the consistency is like a marshmallow that smears like peanut butter (my apologies for the food references, its the best analogy i can think of). She has unlimited Purina pellets in the green bag (shes been eating this for 3 months, nothing new) plus she has unlimited access to alfalfa hay. This abnormal ‘poop’ started while i was out of town, June 3 – 7, i dont think the pet sitter noticed any difference, or when it began. I ended the kale, pinch of broccoli, quarter sized pieces each of both apple and carrot when i got home, she was on alfalfa hay and feed only, for 3 days. It was improving, we started back on veggies and now her “poo” is like clusters of tiny pieces of poop, firmer than the large and puffy from earlier in the week. She drinks ALOT OF WATER (could this be why, even though shes nursing?), has a VERY healthy appetite and wants to be petted profusely, as usual. Shes a Dutch, I believe shes 7 months old, 3.5 – 4 lbs.

Are changes in droppings normal for a new mom?

Is this an effect of the increased water intake while nursing?

Are the veggies bad right now?

She seems to feel ok, considering shes carrying several water balloons around and feeding The Littles is probably a bit stressful. Shes very needy of petting, i attribute that to a need for affirmation – She was pretty needy before the babies. She would bite us if we didnt pet her or stopped petting her.

Sorry for the long inquiry, tried to include everything to minimize the amount of unanswered questions and vague answers necessary for you to respond. Thank you!

While waiting for a reply to this, ive continued reading/searching. Ive learned shes eating either too much protein or sugar. So im adding more timothy (shes been eating alfAlfa on account of her nursing babies) and skip the quarter size piece of apple at night. Ill try adding the apple back if it gets better.
