Anyone with fluffy bunnies ever had the tufts of fur on the sides of their feet get matted? Marlee and Moshi have always had a tuft of fur sticking out on the outer sides of their back feet, but now the tufts are matted. Marlee’s is about 3/4 of an inch long and as big around as my little finger! The mats are tight. Suggestions?

Bam has those. I’ve read somewhere that you must never ever trim fur on bunny feet, because they don’t have pads like dogs and cats etc. So I don’t mess with Bam’s fuzzy feet (but I feel an urge to sometimes).

This is just my approach, I’m not sure it’s the right one.

Thats kindof what I thought but they’re hard and Marlee flinched a littke when I pinched one of hers so I’m wondering if they’re so tight that they’re pulling.

Bindi gets mega foot mats. He always did but they are worse now that he can’t wash as well. I don’t pull the ones on the bottom of his foot but if the ones on the side are really big, I take some manicure scissors and carefully cut a chunk of it off, then the rest works out easily in my fingers. I’m always super careful I don’t remove too much fur, though, because that could cause sore hocks.

LPT — I might have to try that. I was watching her this afternoon and they are starting to stick upward at about a 45 degree angle. I could kick myself for not noticing before we went to the vet on Monday. I’ve been focusing so much on Moshi’s eyes for the last month that I didn’t notice her fluffy foot mats!

Theodore gets bit of fluff sticking out the side of his feet – At first I tried pulling it off (sorry Teddy!) and it didn’t work (oops!) so now I just leave them

Tessie — we did the same thing! I didn’t worry when the tufts looked like pluckable fur, wasn’t until I noticed that they had turned into hard tubular finger-like things that I messed with them. BTW, I’m suddenly seeing all kinds of things about your bunny’s famous daddy — he’s insured for a million! Teddy’s practically a royal baby!

I had an American Fuzzy Lop several years ago, who was matted all over when we adopted him. He also got those matted foot tufts. I did the same thing as LittlePuffyTail, carefully clipping them with small scissors, making sure not to get too close to his foot.
