So it’s been getting hot in Washington state and Bun Bun seems to be drinking less water??? All he does is stay in one spot and sleep, sometimes flopped. His nose also twitches really fast which he does if he’s hot. The thing is, I put a frozen water bottle near him and he nudges it until it’s far enough away from him for his liking. He seems hot but he refuses anything to cool him down. Also, his ears are warm, not hot or cold. Not sure if ear tells temperature.

They can, but if he doesn’t want the water bottle then he doesn’t want it. What’s the temperature inside?

That’s a bit warm. What about having a fan blowing on him?

Tried that too. Even had the fan revolving around so it wasn’t on him constantly if he didn’t like it. Nope, went into a completely opposite room. It’s usually like 50s here if it’s not summer and 80 is a big jump so I’m unsure of why he’s not taking anything to help cool him down.

My bun is doing the exact same thing. Exact same situation that you are describing. Does your bun hop around at all or just chill all day?
I can’t answer your questions as I am puzzled by the same things as you. However, I try my best to keep it cool in the apartment and trust my bun to cool himself. History has shown that he’s a good judge of his own temperature so I try not to worry too much.

He just lays behind the couch and sleeps. All day. He’ll only come out if I have food

Time to get the fans out, it was hot today in the UK, I know when it is hot, Olly just climbs into his cage, if its going to rain he won’t come out, even though he is an indoor rabbit.

Alli your bunny sounds exactly like mine. I mist his ears and syringe him water to help. I think its the transition from cooler to warmer. Good luck! It’s nice to know my bunny isn’t the only one being lethargic.

Man, I’m so not used to seeing him lethargic! I never thought of spraying his ears with mist

You can also wrap a well wrung out cool facecloth around his ears like an ear turban. Some bunnies don’t tolerate this, but my lop seems to enjoy it.

It has been in the upper 90’s here in NC this week and I have been trying to cool my poor Tokki off. I tried a frozen water bottle he would have nothing to do with it. I used a rectangle plastic cake keeper ( I guess thats what you would call it) put crushed ice in it and put some chopped up carrots and cilantro (his favorite) in and under the ice he had to dig in the ice a little and eventually ended up sitting in it on and off until it melted. I also put a fan blowing in his cage and he loved it he is sitting in front of it now. During the day when it is the hottest he usually lazes around once it cools of some he is running around causing trouble like normal.

You can also try putting a cold, well wrung out towel over a fan near his area.
