Today I took Bruce out of his cage and he didn’t want to come. So I tricked him out with a strawberry. Once i got him on the grooming table he refused to finish his treat. I figured he was mad cause he didn’t want to be bothered,. He let me brush him with no problems but refused the rest of his strawberry. After i was done i gave him his favorite head rub and ithought he was happy because he was doing the rabbit pur, but i noticed his heart rate was very heavy, like a pound and slow, only one beat a second. After a minute of peting him it stopped pounding and was a normal rate.He licked me, gave me bunny kisses ate his treat and been normal since. Has anyone ever notiiced this type of heartbeat? i don’t know if it was because he was relaxed, mad, or a sign of medical concern.

One beat per second during a stressful activity, sounds odd.

It’s normal for bunny to refuse treats when stressed, so that doesn’t worry me. Normal heart rates for rabbits are higher than for humans normally, here I googled the exact numbers…

          The average heart rate for a man is 72bpm. A blue whale’s heart beats six times a minute. A horse has 38bpm. A rabbit has 205bpm. A rat 420. A mouse 670.

So, one per second is a healthy slow for humans, but extremely slow for rabbits.

I seems like a vet visit would be a good idea.

Are you just guessing at the rate? You should time it for at least 15 seconds or maybe a full minute if he stays still that long. He sounds like he has a lot of normal behavior and if you weren’t checking the heart rate you’d never know. It does sound odd, but it depends on how far you want to go to pursue it, I guess.
