I have only had Tenzin a bit over a week so I know we are very early into our relationship. However he only wants anything to do with me when I have veggies. By this point at my friends house he was being a licky bunny and even crawling into laps.

I am terrified to let him out because I really have no way to catch him and the pet room isn’t completely finished. The fact I can’t just pick him up and put him back worries me. Of course I knew this could be a potential problem and I don’t expect him to let me pick him up but not running every time I try to pet him would be nice.

He is in a nice peaceful room that the other pets are closed off from and he is getting curious about me but being touched is an issue for him.

Often I will sit outside his pen with the door open and just let him come over to me when he wants, offer my hand to sniff and then he hops off again lol.

Give him time, it will happen, this is the same with me and Olly, in a few weeks he will understand he is in no danger and try and lay or sit still near him and let him climb on you, rub his face on your knee, just give him time, it does not always happen over night, what I do with Olly is play little animal, let him run about and I crawl on my hands and knees next to him, let him sniff me, I’ve had him a couple of months now and can’t pick him up, that is the only problem here.

He is very curious about me esp my feet lol… If I walk in his cage he runs up to sniff me and doesn’t stop. I worry I will step on him.

Also the not liking touched could be a problem… He has an intake with the vet before they will neuter him.

Let him sniff your feet there is no problem, but whiskers tickle a bit, let him sniff your hands if you lay down let him sniff your arms, let him hop on to you, don’t be afraid, let him come to you and offer him some food like a bit of fruit through his cage bars. Olly has an appointment soon at the vets, he is neutered already, but just a check up, vets know how to pick up a rabbit that does not like to be picked up or stroked, let your bunny sniff for as long as he wants, I do that with Olly, they are like little toddlers sometimes, let them do what they want, then they let mummy or daddy do what they want.

I wouldn’t too much about the vet. They will likely be able to handle whatever bunny throws at them. I would focus more on trying to build up your relationship with your bunny. Start out by letting him explore you without the fear of being touched. Once he’s comfortable, you can try hand feeding him some pellets or treats and gradually work up to being able to touch him. Start by petting him on the forehead only.
