My bunny, Piper has started drinking a ton of water lately. He has a rather large water bottle that normally lasts him at least 2-3 days. For the last couple of days I have been refilling his bottle all the way up and he has been drinking the entire thing! I’m assuming this isn’t normal and I don’t know what could be wrong. He is acting completely healthy and normal?

Have you checked the bottle for leaks? Changed his diet?

Honestly it could be nothing, but when in doubt, have the vet check it out.

His bottle doesn’t seem to be leaking! I switch up his vegetables quite frequently. Could this be the cause??

Could he be hot? Tenzin was drinking about 10-12 ounces a day , but after giving him a fan and freezing his water bottle ( only half and then topping it off with fresh water so it stays cool) he is drinking 4-6 ounces a day.

Mine is drinking a lot at the moment, don’t know how much but he has a bowl, I’m in England its not that warm at the moment, but sometimes he will go all day without a drink and then drink a bowl of water in the night, if he wasn’t drinking that would be different, but he is drinking it because he needs it, last week we both drank lots of water before the storm we had here.

Could it be the temp? My bun drinks only a few ounces in the winter a day (I wet her greens though to get her to eat more and she is indoors). But in the summer she can drink like 20 ounces. So there is generally a big difference with how much she drinks in the different weather.

I agree with the vet check. Could be heat, could be teeth, could be that the bottle is leaking slowly, could be that he is obsessed with the ball in the water bottle sipper tube (I know that sounds odd but our vet said she’s seen that annd switching to a water bowl cured it!). My lops went through this for a few months — they were going through 2 26 ounce bottles of water every day. We found that Marlee had a UTI, Moshi liked the sipper tube ball, and one of their bottles had a slow leak.

I just adopted a 7lb rhinelander 2 weeks ago and he was drinking so much I had to go get him a bigger water bowl. I think its due to it being hot out.
