Hello everyone. I was just wondering what a normal day would look like for your bunny.
My bun’s day changes, and right now I  can’t really tell if her bahviour is normal or something I should be keeping an eye on. The last couple of days are as follows.. I get up (around 7:30, 8), she is ready to go! (She has a two story cage and half of a bedroom at night, during the day a full bedroom and for 2-4 hours a day access to the whole house). I open up her room and she books it downstairs.. Hangs out under the bookshelf, lazily.. Maybe explores the living room…Comes upstairs, back to her room, sits and stares at…? The wall from across the room? Eats some greens, eats some hay, settles in for  her “nap”. This is usually between 10:30am-9:00pm with a few bursts of up and down to eat, potty, etc. Around 9 she will eat again, show some interest in her toys, I open up the house again to her- she hasn’t been interested in exploring it lately (keeping to her room), and then will eat, lay down, snooze, eat, bathroom, etc, and then I shut her into half a bedroom and go to bed myself, usually around 11. Tonight for example she is still just nibbling hay and then sleeping. Maybe she is more active after I go to sleep, but lately she just is so.. lethargic? (She is a spayed mini-rex, just about a year and a half). Sometimes too, she will sit in her cage, back to the room, nose to the wall and just stare. Sometimes she will sit and gently rock back and forth- is this normal is she is sit sleeping, or signs of something neurological?

I have read a few posts where some people say that some bunnies are just lazy, but I am wondering if this is too lazy? I also want to mention that she grooms herself. A ton. I would say if she is noticeably awake 5 hours out of my awake day, she probably is probably grooming herself for 2 hours of that. That doesn’t include the time she wakes up from her nap to groom herself.

I wake up when I wake up and check all the pets. I change my bunnies water, give him his pellets, open the cage and he runs around. I may let him roam the house supervised about once a week. At around 8:00, he gets his veggies. Through out the day I straighten his fleece. I also pick him up and put him on my bed. Then he digs the bed and ruins the sheet so I have to put him down. Then I pet him a bunch and cuddle through out everything. Also I clean his letterbox every day or two. I constantly check if he’s eating and if his poops are normal. If he isn’t eating much and his poops are a bit off, I freak out and examine him. After he runs around, most of the other times are, mounting me, eating, pooping, hopping away, flopping, lying down, sleeping, thumping, and contemplating why I did not let him chew my other usb cord.

I’m a relatively new bunny owner so I’m not one to tell you whats normal or not, but my bun doesn’t sleep nearly that much. I sometimes wonder if she gets enough sleep. We keep her in a pen in a hallway between our kitchen and dining room .. It’s about 6 ft by 2 1/2 feet. I usually get up between 7:30 and 8 and as soon as she sees me shes clammoring to get out. We go out on the screened in porch and she zips around, chews on some toys, and lays down next to my chair here and there for some scratches. She usually stays out for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. She then goes in and sits in her litter box and looks at me, which means “I’m ready to eat”. She gets her salad, some fresh hay and water, and a few pellets, and I lock her back in. She is only 8 months old and was just spayed so she still needs constant supervision. She usually doesnt take her nap until the afternoon, and then, she’s up and down, snacking on hay. By the time we are in the kitchen cooking dinner, around 6:00, she is up. We let her out as much as we can in the evening depending on who can watch her, but I atleast make sure she gets out from 8 to around 10, and now that my kids are home from school, they will let her out sometimes late at night to play with her. I change her litter box every night and feed her again and freshen up her hay. Whenever anyone comes down to the kitchen during the night shes either standing or laying by the cage door so I don’t think she’s sleeping because she sleeps all the way in the back of her cage where she can hide.

My rabbit’s schedule tends to vary depending on my schedule, which is pretty random right now. Generally, I awake up around 8am and let him run around the room. While he’s running around, I clean his condo, check his litter box, and refill his water and hay. After about an hour or so, I give him his morning pellets (he gets half at night and half in the morning), and he rests in his cage while I’m out. Generally, he naps from about 11am to 2:30pm, and after he wakes up, he goes to his litter box and starts devouring hay. When I get home, I try to let him out for the rest of the evening. He either hops around his room or in the family room. At about 6pm, he gets the rest of his pellets, and then he eats his salad a few hours later. He’s more relaxed after eating, so that’s when I tend to pet him the most.
While he’s out, I refill his water and hay again and change his litter box. At about 10pm, he goes back to his cage, and I give him a little treat before going to bed myself. I plan to give Hugo more freedom when he’s a bit older and use his condo less, but since he’s only six months old right now, he still needs supervision.

Wakes up before everybody else, rings his bell inside the cage around 5:30 am, if nobody opens the cage, thumps around, rings again. He perks up when he sees me walking towards him more bell ringing. (We had him since he was a baby and we installed a bell in his cage and I don’t know how he learned if he rings it somebody will come and open his door or feed him.) Runs out of the cage to use his litter box outside. (He rarely uses his cage litter box. He is very clean.) Afterwards, I call him to my room for some petting maybe 5-10 mins, then comes out and roams around the living looking for mischief. If nothing interests his fancy he flops under the chair and grooms himself on the weekends. He will stay there sometimes for the rest of the day and only goes in the cage to eat and drink. (If his bowl is empty he rings the bell, his servants (us) will refill it.) Sometimes he flops there but he goes back under the chair until night falls. If it is a weekday and I have to go to work he flops in front of the door as if saying nobody gets past me, nobody should go to work. He will do his little “accident”, yes he will poo in front of the door so you will have to clean it up. I think he is buying time so I can’t leave yet. (My mom usually takes care of him when I am off to work, so he is free range all day).

In the evening when I get home, I open the door and he is there ready to greet me or to demand pets. My mom says she knows I will be home soon cause 5 mins before I come in he plants himself there. If I don’t come home on time (overtime at work or a night out) he will not be at the door he will be either in his cage or under the chair and will ignore all night or will do mischief like digging or chewing stuff to show that he is angry. Typical night, he will flop himself again in front of the door until he sees me come out to watch TV. He will flop beside my chair and watch TV as well or he will flop in front of the TV staring at me. He will sometimes go around the living room or groom himself or lick me. Then between 10:30 pm – 12:00 pm he typically goes inside his cage to eat, drink and sleep. I know he will be going back to his cage when I see him groom him for at least 15 mins, yes, 15 mins. I should film it and put it in you tube, even my neighbor’s rabbit don’t do that. That’s why they think I brush him everyday, I go, no, it’s all him. If he doesn’t want to go inside the cage at the required time I tell him “Go IN! Go IN!” and he goes to this cage. If he is trying to be difficult I try to carry him (he is all feet on the ground rabbit) and he will run to the cage or he will try to whimper which wakes my mom up (yes, it’s that loud!) but will reluctantly go in and the worst part is if is trying to be a pain in the rear he’ll have me chase him until I get upset then goes in with a thump, thump.

He is getting older now so my mom says he just sleeps all day now. We used to have a Betta fish and that is his “friend” (Mr. Betta died recently) he would jump on the low table and flop beside the fish and I think they understand each other. Whenever my bunny stares at the fish he will do the fish binky (the fish will jump and seems very happy). My bunny is a bit depressed lately because Mr. Betta is gone. They both arrived at my house just a week apart. I always see my Bunny staring at him or flop beside his aquarium. When Mr. Betta died, he still flopped beside the aquarium and was looking for Mr. Betta but he is gone. I didn’t take the aquarium down for a week and he keeps staring at it as if something is missing (I could not describe the look). Now that the aquarium is gone, he seems lonely. It’s been 3 months now since the fish died but he still looks up looking for the aquarium. He is getting back to his former self now, maybe he realized the fish is not coming back. I have not gone to the pet store yet to get a new fish for him because I am so busy right now but I will try and find a similar red betta for him. (I’ve been watching Unusual Friendships in National Geographic TV and this convinced me to believe the fish and bunny are besties. Maybe they have this animal only language we do not know of.).(Mr. Betta died at the age of 2.5 years. Bunny and Fish would have been 3 years old in September.)
