Hey guys, just joined the forum last night, but I decided to wait till I can get a photo of my new bun to write this post. I’m very new to owning rabbit. Last July my neighbor sold me a 1month old baby, which died a week after. Since my neighbor raise farm animals, I trust what he told me anyway. Pretty much it was very misleading information on rabbit care. Since then I’m scared to get another rabbit, because it dies so easily. But, just yesterday my mom spot this cutest rabbit ever (according to my mom), and she decided to just bring it home to me.

Her name is Phoebe. The breeder told us that she is 2months old, but she looks a lot smaller than the 2 months rabbit photo reference. This is definitely not a dwarf species. I’m assuming meat rabbits are just larger in general, that’s why the ones in the photo looks larger. She measures about 15cm long in the position like she is in the picture. She got a thick coat that’s why she looks round, but her body feels rather slim. I can feel her ribs as well. I think the breeder might have underfed her, but she’s been eating and drinking almost non-stop since I got her.

She’s been very sweet, quite active and playful if you let her run around the house; hence, I can’t get her to stay still for a good photo. But, once you pick her up and snuggle her, she will just close her eyes, or even take a nap.

Now, I have been doing quite a bit of research on rabbit care. I really hope that this new bun doesn’t just die on me… I’m just so traumatized from my first rabbit experience. It was horrible.

Hello and welcome to the forum

Don’t feel bad about your previous bun, its always upsetting to loose a pet, but bunnies really shouldn’t be taken from their mother at 1 month, so it wasn’t your fault. Once you know how to take care of your bun, you’ll be okay. It is rare that a bun just dies without warning.

As for your new bunny; she’s so cute!
Size isn’t always a good indicator of age, maybe she’s just little.
It’s also important to find a good local exotics vet who can help you look after bun and spay her when she’s old enough.
She’s probably not underfed; at a healthy weight you should be able to feel bun’s ribs. When you take her to a vet for her first check up the vet can give you an idea of how old she is and what her body condition is like.

Here are some links to read up on about how to take care of your bun (and to prevent any further sad losses)

            Hello there.
I’m new too, I kept rabbits a long time ago not just my own but in a rescue centre for rehoming, but I came here to find advice about a young boy I adopted, also after 20 years my bunny knowlege has gone, so it is all new to me, good luck with your new bunny, with lots of TLC she will give you many wonderful years of happiness.
