        Hi,

One of bunnies, Frankie, is a complete nut for oat hay. Specifically, the oat hay seeds, she could care less about the stalks. I used to give her oat hay pretty regular, like everyday when I would get home from work. But I also feed my bunnies pellets when I get home from work and I noticed when I was regularly giving Frankie oat hay, she could almost care less that I just poured pellets into her bowl and would just stare at me again I gave her some oat hay! Any other bunnies nutty for a particular type of hay? BTW, I cut back on the oat hay and now just give to her as a treat; however, she has unlimited access to timothy and orchard grass.

Sounds like she just really really loves it! The oat hay is more fattening than other varieties, but as a treat hay, it’s fine!

FandC — My bunnies are exactly like that. Moshi would choose oat hay tops over salad! Mine only get the seedheads as treats now. I didn’t realize at first that they were high cal until my bunnies started looking a little round!

Good to know about the high cal part. I guess it’s just like human food, what’s bad for us tastes soooo good! I wonder how fattening oat hay is if they only eat the seedheads?

I don’t know about cal content but my vet said to limit my bunnies to one seed head cluster per day. They’re pretty small bunnies though. The seed head clusters on my latest oat hay order has 10 to 20 seedheads per stalk. It may be coincidence, but whenever any of my bunnies seem to have a poop slowdown, oat hay tops get the “moving”!

Hmm, I haven’t seen this too much with hay. Naners are a whole other story though!
