Ok, I have a nice tall exercise pen I will be using for my bun, But after having to rearrange the pet room lay out I would have to put his crate IN the pen instead of using it as an expansion. Should I even bother with the crate? The pen will only be 4×4

I will of course keep it for when I can expand but should I just store it away for now?

should I use the crate or let him just have the pen right now? I am leaning towards the pen so he can have more room to hop uninterrupted but I would like to heat from experienced keepers first.

I would just go ahead with the pen since you have it. When you are able to expand with both, then go for it!

well the crate would have had to be inside the pen … which might just be taking up space.

Here is the pen without the cage

Its set up in my kitchen at the moment, Excuse the mess. My dog is about 11 lbs , my rabbit is 4 lbs, He is just for a size comparison. ( In this picture lol, I didn’t get my dog so he could be a size comparison)

I zip tied shut the corner for now, it just looks better than the clips.

well.. I started out with a crate, while waiting for my pen to be delivered. Then I incorporated it inside and altered the crate as well. Played around with that for a bit.

I ended up getting another pair of rabbits (another story) one which ended up living in just the pen set up like you have. Now they pair are bonded and I have extended that same pen by separating it midway and attaching the ends directly to the wall with some hooks. So she went from a 4’x4′ to a 6’x4′ with a friend. They are quite happy.

I think you will appreciate it without the crate inside, for easier cleanup, and as you mentioned, your bun would have uninterrupted running room.

(I just finally got rid of my crate completely 2 days ago.)

I also cleared a 4×8 space for the pens I hope to someday expand even bigger lol.

The great part is it can hold the pens as 4×4’s side by side if we get a second rabbit
