I haven’t worked out in a long time and yesterday I had the motivation so I started doing some push ups, squats, and sit ups. I had the buns locked up in their pens and I was closest to Olive’s pen… by the second set of sit ups, she exploded in her pen  She ran around the pen in circles, knocking her almost full water bowl over, kicking up poop from the litterbox all over the room, and smashing her body against the sides of the pen like she was trying to bust out. It was terrifying because I’d never experienced anything like that. I went over to open her pen and clean up the mess and she backed into a corner, didn’t want to come out. I was trying to calm her down but she repeatedly thumped while grunting. My other bun Emilee thumps and grunts the most, but Olive beat her record of continuous thumping/grunting. She’s fine now, but I will never do a sit up in front of her again.

Has anyone shared a similar experience? Do your buns react weirdly when you work out? Do bunnies like their humans to be sedentary all the time?

Maybe she didn’t recognize you working out :~)

But seriously, I tried once to put one of those cat tunnels in one of my rabbit’s pens one time and he freaked out – I don’t think he recognized my shape when I was carrying the cat tunnel…I know it’s not working out but I think it’s along the same lines. They don’t have great vision.

I’ve only tried doing yoga at home. It’s hard doing a down dog with a bunny sniffing your nose… or climbing on me when I try to do plank. Nosy, nosy bunny!

If I do situps and pushups near mine they try to climb all over me looking for food. I’m just a giant food dispenser for them.

The treadmill though….wow does Pumpkin hate it. But then again she hates sounds in general.

Sounds like you just spooked Olive! She’ll get used to it!

I have the opposite problem. I do p90x and insanity in my bed room next to Lilith;s cage and sucummbinmg front yard yea.She seems to be down now, although first time i did all that jumping around she hid for a long time. honetly it seems that they get used to it after a while. Lilith cares so little now, she just goes to sleep with all of the jumping and there is alot!

My rabbits come to me as soon as I hit the floor and circle my feet, or if I lay down to do a sit up they jump on me, or if I do a push up Powder runs under me… lol

I did a ballet workout yesterday and Harvey just watched me from the roof of his hutch.

Thanks everyone for the stories lolol. Yes, I think Olive just freaked out because she didn’t understand what I was doing. Like Sarita said, my shape probably changed and looked like half of me was thrashing around lol.

Bubbles_Jo, LLH, and Stickerbunny- I have the same problem with Nugget and Emilee! They are always bothering me when I do long workout sessions. Running under me, sniffing my feet, nosebonking me when I stretch! I always lock the buns up when I want to work out.

The Law Bun- How does your rabbit sleep when you do p90x and Insanity??? I can’t even clap when I do burpees because the buns hate the sound more than seeing me jump in the air. Rabbits probably think humans are the strangest creatures lol.

Nugget, my littlist rabbit lives in a cage on the floor of my bedroom. When I do exercises on the mat next to his cage, he stops whatever he’s doing, scoots to the side of the cage closest to me and stares, giving his head a little tilt as if to say “what on earth are you doing?!”

That has to be the most adorable thing ever! That would encourage me to work out all the time, just to see that little face

if I ever work out, I’ll post what the bunnies do.
                                  😉
I wonder if your bunny interpreted the contact or even the movement of air when you lowered your upper body to the floor, when doing sit-ups, as sort of a thumping?

As far as my two bunnies, the only thing that seems to trigger any really hyper behavior is when my son jumps up and down. I think they think he is binkying and Frank joins in and Otis will give a half binky at most. Otis will do hyper, lap running, slamming into the edges of their expen routine but the only thing that seems to trigger it is me in a deep sleep as she only does it at around 2am. Otherwise, they are surprisingly tolerant of us weird, noisy humans.
I’ll be curious to see how they respond once we increase their habitat. My son has a mini trampoline (with bungee cords instead of springs) he uses as a transitional tool (we are both autistic) and I’m curious to see Otis and Frank’s response to a kid binkying 45-60 times a minute. 🙂

I’m enjoying reading about the similarities between our buns and how each one really has unique quirks.
