I recently got a 6.5 week old rabbit. (7 weeks as of now) I cleaned her cage last night only to wake up this morning and find several uneaten formed (not runny) cecotropes in her litter box and around her cage. At least 7 or 8. Her diet currently consists of Timothy hay, alfalfa hay, and pellets (unsure of the kind but I’m fairly certain its made from corn. The people I got her from already had her on this food, but I have young bunny food from oxbow coming in the mail tomorrow so I can wean her off of it.) She has had unlimited access to all of these foods. I have not given her veggies, fruits, or treats. What should I do? She is eating and drinking normally and seems fine other than the cecotrope issue.

I wouldn’t worry – baby rabbits due to their diet usually produce more cecotropes so she is just eating what she needs.

All three of my rabbits missed a bunch of their cecotropes when they were that age. After a week or so, they got the hang of it and the ‘leftovers’ began to taper off to nothing. My vet didn’t find this worrisome.

              Agreed.

My baby bun was like that, too. It’s gotten better, and I rarely see cecotropes nowadays. Whenever I do see ’em on the cage floor, I usually just put them back into the litter box. Sometimes, my bun will go back and eat them. Otherwise, I toss them all out when I clean the litter box (every evening).

A rich diet will produce “extras”. I agree with the others, nothing to worry about as long as they are well-formed. She will likely grow out of it.
