I have two buns, Charlie and Harley. Charley is 4 and is awesome at going to the bathroom in the litter boxes (I have two, one in their cage and one out). Harley, who is 2, is not so good….It’s not that he randomly goes anywhere, but he loves to pee and poop right next to the litter box.

I can see where he has left a permanent stain on my rug so I tried moving the litter box over it incase it was a proximity issue, which it is not. He still loves to go right next to it.

Do you think I should try putting to outside of their cage so they can each have one? Is he acting out because he doesn’t want to share the same box as Charlie?

It’s gotten progressively worse over the last year so any advice would be appreciated!

I would try adding a litter box or two. It could be that he wants his own and this is his way of telling you.
One of my buns insists on going in the cage right in front of the litter box but not in the litter box. I gave up only because it was not hurting anything. You could also add a mat under the litter box so the bun’s waste does not ruin the carpet! Vinegar helps with the odor and stains…
