So I was grooming my bunny Chloe today. I use just a regular small plastic comb on her, I usually don’t have problems, but lately I’ll be combing her out (she’s been massively shedding) and I’ll get around her rear end or tail and she will hust frwak out and I wind up injuring her because of it. Today i nicked her tail some how. I feel awful. How can I remedy this? Thanks!

She probably has mats there and that is causing her pain when you tug on them with the comb. Some bunnies have a harder time keeping that area groomed so they get mats.

My Bindi will bite me if I try to groom around his tail and I tug at a tangle by accident. That actually happened a few minutes ago and now i have a nice bruise forming on my arm.

My best advice, just be careful in that area. Try a wider tooth comb, maybe will help.

Bunnies either hate being groomed around their rear. Others, like my Wooly, will feel compelled to groom back when getting groomed back there. Not sure why. LOL
LPT gave some good suggestions. My only other thought would be to hold onto the fur as you’re trying to detangle it so that it doesn’t pull when you comb.

Awesome. Is there a really good comb that makes grooming easier? I tried a slicker, and it tore up her skin so. I started using the comb. Also, is it normal when i groom her that so much hair comes out whereshe goes bald… most of the time i dont even have to try, the fur just comes out in hunks!

If she is in the middle of a molt/shed, then yes it is normal. Fur often comes out in clumps. As long as it is growing back, it isn’t an issue.

Have you tried a hairbuster comb? I have one and it works well.

The furminator is good for de-shedding but does nothing for mats.
