So. I get my first apartment. I grew up with at least two dogs, what ever foster dogs we had, a cat, a Parrot, and any other animal that needed a place. So naturally. When I moved out, it was EXTREAMLY quiet and lonely ( I loveee my betta fish, but it just wasn’t cutting the need for companionship) . I’m working 4 days a week, decent pay. I can’t get a dog or cat, because, once on my own, away from dogs and cats, my eczema. is almost gone. Research led me to a rabbit. So, off to the pet store we go, to make sure I’m not allergic torabbits too. I ended up falling head over heels for a 3 month old rex/lionhead/lopland/Netherland mix (I tried the adoption shelters first but I broke out to most of them, but this pet store takes unwanted bunnies, their not bred) I buy the stuff, and take her home. Get her home, gave her the spare bed room, which is bunnyproofed, now the whole place is. Anyway! I’ve had her (I think it’s a her) for 4 days now. And we’ve really hit it off. She trusts me, comes over when I get home EVEN guards the place! I was napping with her on the top of the sofa, and a friend was coming in and she tapped my shoulder really fast, and woke me! She’s a delight during the day, hopping and skipboing, and even on the table the fish is, looking at him. She rarely chews, snuggles, and fits in. But at night, it’s different. She doesn’t cause mischeif, she’s just restless, and she can’t seem to find a spot to sleep. I’ve made beds in boxes, pulled out a dresser drawer, even just threw a comforter on the floor hoping she’d nestle in. But every night except tonight so far, she just sleeps huddled in the middle of the room. . She’s insistant on sleeping under my bed. And I don’t like that, because a I’m worried about bunny bombs, and B the bed frame isn’t fantastic, I mean, it’s my very first apartment, the beds held up on milkcrates. I’m paranoid the bed will fall off or something and she’ll be squished D: so I baracaded it off. Got some thumps over that one. I had one last ditch idea. I have a milk crate night stand, so I put a basket and a blankie in it. She was in it, but kept trying to curl up on my bed. I don’t want her to because she’s still small and a fall from the height of the bed might hurt her, and despite her impecable use of the litter box, I’m worried she’ll piddle. But when she gets older and bigger, I was thinking I might let her. Does anyone else let their bunnies on their bed? Does her wanting to come up mean she likes me?
Did I hurt her feelings by putting her on the floor?
        I’m kinda lost here. :/

My rabbit is allowed on my bed – he’s a small Netherland (about 1.5 pounds and about 5 years old). He does not piddle but he does do some poops at the end of the bed which is annoying but not a big deal because I just pick them up and put them in the toilet or my houseplants. Would I prefer he not poop, of course, but it’s usually when I’m sleeping (well it’s always when I’m sleeping) and sometimes I don’t know he’s there until he hops up to me…I would allow it anyway.

I do have a bench at the end of the bed that he jumps up to get to the bed and down to go down as well.

Did you hurt her feelings – I doubt it – rabbits are pretty tolerant and frankly you must live in the apartment too…

If she liked sleeping under your bed, it may be that she wants something that feels “safe”. Since money’s tight, try making your own hidey house or tunnel with cardboard boxes — make sure there are at least two doorways (ideally on opposite ends) so she feels like she has an escape route!

Printing companies and copy shops have nice boxes that they normally give away free. You can attach multiple boxes together by punching holes and tying the boxes together with sisal string (no tape for bunny to chew), or find a larger box and just make s hidey house.

My rabbit is a dwarf mix. He always slept on my bed. Before he was fixed he would pee, but since he’s been fixed that has practically stopped. He also likes sleeping under the bed when I’m not home.
Now that he has his girlfriend, Lily, he never sleeps on the bed. He’s always under the bed with her. Jerk. lol!

buns_honey_buns–I just love your first apt.!! My first place on my own, I had just a mattress on the floor b/c we couldn’t fit the box spring up the stairs! I feel like you are living pretty high class with even your milk crates! I agree w/ the cardboard boxes–she probably just wants a safe place to snooze where she has her top covered. You could do a box that has two entrances but covers her head. Rabbits really like to have a couple escape options!

Sorry to go off topic, but Sarita–you put bunny poop in your house plants?! How much? Does it help? I’m fighting a never ending battle to keep my houseplants alive….

                Welcome buns_honey_buns!

I have to live there too, that is a good point! XD I have an ottiman I’ll put at the end of the bed for her I think. Although apparently she must be able to jump it because this morning I woke up to bunny kisses.

It’s a darn nice and big, place for the money. I really lucked out and got a lot of stuff from family. And a 30$ sofa (awe yeah) if only I could get some darn mugs xD
And how big do ya think the box should be? Just big enough, or roomy? Does it matter?

I don’t think the box size matters! Mine like big and small spaces! Maybe get a couple and see what she prefers!
