        Hi guys!
I’m new here and this is my first post! I’m a new (ish) bunny mum and I have 2 crossbreed, 6 month old boys named Hiro and Sylar! They have always been together, they are both neutered and they are the best of friends… so far!!!
Anyway, I noticed a few days ago that Sylar has a bald patch on the bottom of his ear. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him and at first I thought it was down to a scuffle between the 2 of them BUT it’s been almost a week now and it isn’t showing any signs of growing back! He doesn’t have any anywhere else and neither does Hiro! I’m ringing the vets for an appointment in the morning but can anyone set my mind at rest???

        Thanks
        Xx

It’s not really very clear It doesn’t seem red, no flakey skin or anything, it’s just completely hairless and doesn’t seem to be showing much sign of anything growing back!

Hmm, so this is at the base of the ear then. Is it just the one ear? Sometimes the fur will be thinner in that area.

Yeah it’s just the one :/ It is completely bald though, there is no hair at all on that little patch! He was neutered just under a month ago and they did put a catheter in one of his ears but I don’t even remember if it was the same one! If it was mites would there be anything else to look out for? Or would our other Rabbit possibly have bald patches too? We couldn’t get them to the vets today but hopefully we will be able to get them in tomorrow!

There is usually some sign of mites (scabby, scaly, flaky, and/or red skin) when it is indeed mites. But I suppose you never know. The only way to know for sure is to have a vet take a scraping.

Sometimes bunnies will lose hair around an injection site, so having a catheter in the ear might cause something like that.

Hair can take ages to grow back. Porky had several spots shaved by the vet during a not terribly recent illness, and they are just barely beginging to have the fur grow back.

Is it possible that Hiro is over grooming Sylar in that spot? I have seen bunnies make a bald spot on their companions by grooming too much in one spot.
