Tonight my rabbit flopped over next to me and I noticed a small spot right on the bend of her back foot that was pink. It’s only on one foot and it’s not red, it’s just pale pink. It doesn’t look inflamed or anything, and it’s barely noticeable. I had never seen it before, but I never really looked very hard. She doesn’t seem to be in any pain either. I’m probably (hopefully) just overreacting and worrying too much, but I was wondering if anyone had any opinions or advice maybe to calm my mind.

This is the best picture I could get from crankypants.

That’s a callous and it’s pretty normal in most rabbits – it’s definitely not a sore hock.

Most bunnies have these. Nothing to worry about unless it’s red or swollen. Keeping nails trimmed short helps prevent sore hocks. It’s a good idea to check the hocks as part of a grooming routine to check for any problems.

Don’t worry, this is just a callus that is very common in bunnies. To prevent sore hocks you can use memory foam mats and add layers of towels. Contact your vet if the callus starts oozing or is getting redder. For home remedies I suggest looking at 101rabbits’s video on sore hocks only if it gets any worse.
