Hey guys I’m new to this site and a fairly new bunny owner. We got our male and female from a friend who’s gf was allergic to them. They are not fix so we had them in one big metal cage with a divider in between them. With the the divider they couldn’t see each other. We do have two separate cages but we’re worried about them standing in their poop and pee. But, we decided to put them in their other cages so they could see each other. They seem to love it and even bury their poop and pee. But I have noticed that they aren’t drinking like they use to. And my male has been thumping a while lot more. He has just finally stopped after doing it for over an hour. Does this mean he doesn’t like the new cage? And why wouldn’t they be drinking as much as they use to? Can someone please help? Thank you.

Buns don’t often drink a lot. Have you started giving them more greens? That has a lot of water.
Sounds like someone was freaked out about his cage, but I suppose if the thumping stopped, we can hope it doesn’t start up again. Weird question, but the thumper doesn’t have a mirror nearby where he thinks there’s another creature is there?

No no mirror. I thought he (sledge) was just getting use to seeing my female (ruby). And also no no greens we were told a lot of stuff from their previous owner that I later found out was false like if they makes noises say good bye. So the only really greens they get it Timothy hay. If that is even considered a green. Like I said I’m new to this so I’m kinda learning as I go. Ty for your help

Hi Justina! My name is Justina too!

I’m guessing Sledge was letting you know he either a) disapproves of being separated from Ruby or b) is excited to be able to see Ruby.

If you get a chance, go under the Diet and Care tab on this site. Are your buns full grown? They should be getting some greens and pellets in their diet. Greens would be like romaine, parsley, green leaf lettuce, turnip greens, etc. etc. There’s a whole list under that tab.

Welcome and glad you found us!

As a fairly new bunny owner, definitely read all you can about diet, behavior, etc. The Bunny Info section has great infornation and links to other resources. You can search old threads for info too, and don’t be afraid to ask anything!

I’d guess your bunny was thumping because he was in a different cage — some bunnies disapprove of changes and will let you know! My little Marlee is a thumper and expresses her disapproval about everything from putting her tunnel in the wrong spot to not serving salad fast enough!
