My rabbit just recently developed an irritated eye. The white is a bit red and he is keeping it slightly closed, as though it’s sensitive. he’s acting his normal self otherwise and his breathing is fine. Any advice? My vet isnt open until Tuesday.

Hmmmm, I think if your vet isn’t open till Tuesday you’ll just have to keep an eye on it (no pun intended) and hang on till then!

If might just be a little irritation from some hay. As long as it isn’t conjuncting one day shouldn’t hurt just get there as soon as you can as some antibiotic drops might be required if the irritation is bad enough.

If he’s holding it half closed, it hurts.

I have one bunny who has one eye that gets irritated like that (she had a minor injury to that eye a year ago). A little hay dust will set hers off, and the vet told us we could use eye wash (not drops or other stuff but *eye wash*) made for humans. She said we could gently run some of that over her eye using a clean bulb syringe to keep the stream gentle. She has also given us antibiotic eye drops to use (the drops are antibiotic and anti-inflamatory).

IMO, anything to do with the eyes needs a vet visit. Eye issues can be caused by anything from hay dust to overgrown tooth roots and best treated early.
