Moshi is a year and 8 months old and until a few days ago had never done this, but he has snorted at me twice in the past three days. It sounds like a snort or like the sudden loud snore someone might fo that wakes them up. The first time he did it he was eating his pellets and I reached down and was petting his head — he raised his head up to push my hand away and snorted. The second time was last night right after pellets. Marlee was laying down and Moshi was sitting next to her grooming her head. I leaned down, gave her a pet on her back and gave him a pet on his head. He immediately raised his head, and snorted while raising his head. Both times it was very fast. Did he just gulp a little air because he was eating pellets or licking Marlee or is this something I should be concerned about? Other than him humming when he’s hopping around when salad’s are about to be served, he never makes any other noises. He’s also almost completely deaf.

One of Pandora’s girls, Sumi, snorts at me quite regularly. It means she is not happy with me. Is it possibly a snarky snort or does it sound more like a blocked nose ?

The first time, with the pellets, it seemed like “leave me alone, I’m eating!”. The second time, while grooming Marlee, it was like “I’M groooooming her!”. Both times it sounded like an air going in kindof snort/snore and not an air going out noise. Kieko growls and grunts all the time, but it wasn’t like any of her noises and was much louder.

There isn’t any wetness on or around his nose. The only time I thought I heard “blowing bubbles in his nose” (only way I can think to describe loose wet nose inside), I tried to listen closely and heard nothing. So assume snarky uness I hear or see what?

Not sure, I only ever got the snarky snort. Watch for wetness round the nose and mouth like you are doing, any tooth grinding or wheezing. Chest noises possibly ?

                Thanks!

No chest noises, just the two snorts and excited humming/buzzing when its food time!

Gus snorts at the dog all the time. The dog is always either getting between Gus and myself or following Gus too closely and sniffing at him, so Gus finds him very annoying

Pumpkin snorts at us, especially when there’s pellets involved and she doesn’t feel she’s getting them fast enough. She also snorts and lunges when we are reaching too far into her cage. I think he was just angry with you!!

Oh and I would expect such behavior from Marlee, but not sweet Moshi!

LLH — exactly! He’s got a pretty strong head butt but never been a vocal bunny. The only noise Marlee makes is a tiny little growl right before she thumps and then only if she’s really angry, but I could definitely see her conjuring up a snort!

I refuse to believe Pumpkin would snort at anyone!

JR I think your rabbit knows my rabbits because Usagi snorted at me today. He didn’t seem to be too happy with me and didn’t want to be petted. He hasn’t done that to me before and I have had him for a little over 2 years.
