Hi all. I hope someone out there can help me!
I have 2 male mini lops that I bought the same time from the same breeder that I have kept as house rabbits in our spare room. Gus and Harry were both in the same cage when I bought them so already knew each other from the start. I had both of them neutered at around 15 weeks as they were both acting like “teenagers” so I knew the change was happening. They are now around 6 months old and Everything was ok and they were best of friends, playing, cuddling, grooming etc up until last Saturday night. They woke me up at 3am crashing about. I ran into their room and they were chasing each other viciously. They eventually calmed down and went back to normal until the same thing happened on the Monday night at the same time. This time was worse and they were both cut and there was fluff everywhere. We separated them immediately and tried to introduce them again a few hours later and now everytime they see each other they go into attack mode. Why has this happened and will they ever be friends again?

          Hello and Welcome to BB!

I’m sorry you’re having trouble with your boys. This sometimes happens as bunnies grow up. Even though you neutered them at the right time they go through personality shifts as they come into adulthood and it can cause conflicts. Once fighting begins they can quickly build a negative association with each other. The good news is I definitely think they can be friends again.

Since they’ve been separated for the week I might suggest starting from scratch. If you haven’t gone through the bonding process previously BB’s article on it is a good place to start:

If you go the re-bonding route I would suggest giving them a break from each other for a week or so before beginning the process.

Thank you so much for your reply. I’m glad there’s some hope for my boys as I spoke to my vet and they told me once they fight, il have to seperate then forever. I don’t want to keep them apart as they were such good friends. It’s so sad as they are both lonely now but as soon as we show them to each other, they want to kill.
            Hopefully the rebonding will work.
