We found Herman a 1 yo running in backyard, yes, checked for anyone losing bunny. Herman was nuetered last friday. He is currently in cage being house trained and doing great. Velvet who was spayed 2 years ago, is super excited to have a friend and they rub noses thru the cage. My QUESTION?

When ever Velvet is let upstairs where Hermans cage is. She runs and prances and drops 20-30 pills around the cage, any ideas what’s going on here? I was going to move his cage in the basement where Velvet mostly hangs out, but not if she’s going to poop all around him?

She’s just marking her territory! Pumpkin pooped everywhere and Rocky peed in the corner when I first brought Rocky home. This is will go away eventually (but maybe not right away!)

LLH beat me to it. A little bit of dominance letting him know she was here first. Doesn’t mean they won’t bond just something she needs to do as the previously “ONLY” bunny.

So, should I keep him in the cage upstairs away from her another week. That would be 2 weeks since he was neutered. Or, do you think I should start to increase his territory for litter training, and keep her in basement. OR leave him in cage a week so he doesn’t spray, (I know he’s neutered, but I swear I saw a pink thing underneath as he was wandering around out side his cage last night for 10 minutes or so.

I’m thinking just keep him in there till next Friday then start the process? Thanks.

Allow atleast 4-6 weeks for the hormones to settle. They still have sperm for at least a month post neuter which is a lesson you do not want to learn first hand like I did. This is why people will often refer to me as the go to for baby bunnies.

Well, Velvets been spayed for 2 years, but, yeah. I might just start letting him roam around upstairs, and keep her banished in basement. As he was roaming for 10 minutes or so last night, I was watching pretty close, I swear he had a 1″ pink thing hanging underneath. lol

Here’s a ? After a week after neutering Herman, do you think he will spray if left to roam upstairs away from Velvet. She is kept downstairs, but, I wonder if he will smell her upstairs, and make a “big stink” over it? I would like to try getting him used to a litterbox and house living.

Yep, Pink bit is quite possible still. LOL. He will still want to hump everything for a few weeks yet, the hormones go a little crazy after neuter then settle after a month or so.

So, I should wait till next Friday? That will be 2 weeks. I’ll let him, pretty much loose upstairs, then, Keep her downstairs.

Okay, I put Herman and cage in basement, Velvets romper room. No fighting thru bars or anything but Herman is “thumping” every few seconds she’s around, what does that mean? They both seem excited to have one another, but I’ll wait at least 2 weeks after neutering to let him loose. She’s spayed so, not worried about babies, lol.

It’s not babies that are a concern at this stage, boy bunnies can be slightly more obnoxious following neuter whilst their hormones settle and they will still hump everything including little bunny girls heads and get their soft tender bits a little too close to sharp pointy teeth… You want to keep them apart for at least a month. They may be fine but if they have an altercation it can damage any future bonding.

This okay overnight, no aggression as of yet?

They should be OK like that just don’t be tempted to give them time together unpenned as yet. Pascal and Starsky, both desexed males have lived side by side for ages. Fine when there is an Xpen between them but mortal enemies the moment the barriers are down.
