Hi guys! So I was wondering if I could get some advice on something!

So I am beginning to think I need to cut my bun bun back on his pelleted food. I need something that I can use as a reward for clicker training. So I am thinking maybe using the pellets as the treat since he likes them. Given that, is it ok for him to just eat hay? (My vet said not to give veggies until he is at least 4 months old, but we are not sure how old exactly as we bought him from a store, however, I think he is close because his testicles are pretty descended) What do you guys feed? What do you use as a reward for clicker training? I know veggies should be limited too. I am going to be calling around for a good vet for bunnies for neutering, so that will help me too.

i thought baby bunnies needed unlimited pellets and unlimited hay. But i’m not sure at what age, that suggestion stops. Pepper was already around a year when we got him. Not sure what to suggest for treats. We use fruit or baby carrots for a treat, but you can’t since you haven’t started offering it yet.

Could you maybe cut your bunnies pellets in half? Feed half regularly and half (or as much of it as you need) as treats. With free choice hay of course.

I think it’s important for your young bun to get unlimited pellets right now. After he’s grown, then pellets are a great “treat”. We trick our buns into doing pretty much anything we want with pellets and don’t have to sugar them up

I can’t remember how long the pellets should be unlimited for, but I’m sure it says under the diet section

I’m just unsure of how old he really is :0 most people and here say if he is pretty descended he is at least 4 months old but I didn’t think he was already.

I give according to the instructions on the back of the packaging. Weight of the bunny = xxx Grams of pellets.

If i am to give unlimited amount of pellets to my 3 month old. He’ll just finish the pellets and not eat hay cuz he just loves the genesis pellets.

If you’re not sure how old he is (and your vet doesn’t have a clear idea), but he was visibly a baby when you got him, just assume he was 8 weeks old at the pet store and work forward from there. Base your timeline on that.

Between 6 months and a year, you can switch to timothy based pellets and reduce the amount he gets. If he has unlimited for a couple extra months, this won’t harm him long term.

Veggies can be started at any time after 8 weeks old, but in very small amounts until you know he can handle them.

Well I got him February 10th of this year. So if I say he was 8 weeks then, he would be 4 months at the beginning of May. But he is pretty descended right now and I thought they didn’t start dropping until 4 months?

4 months would put him at 16 weeks, yep they should be a bit obvious by now. You can get boy buns desexed from 3 months old if they have dropped.
