Hello all!! My name is Robert, and I live in MN. I just adopted a baby flemish giant buck. I have bunny proofed my office and put up a large pen for him to live in. My question is this; His father was 24lbs and a lot of the female babies they had were way bigger then the buck I got. The guy told me the little buck will outgrow the females eventually. Is this true? I just want to know if I’m going to have a smaller flemish since he is small now or if he will grow rapidly soon like the females they are 8 weeks old. Thanks

Sorry for the poor  image quality click link to see him

I’ve always heard the females were larger than the males, but I’m not sure if that’s really true. Anyway, he’s cute. Are those your cockatiels too – Bonnie & Clyde? They sure are adorable.

I also have read that females were usually larger than males. I think more importantly, genetics and proper care would be the deciding factor. My Flemish, Bonnie, is MUCH larger than her mother is, and I think that is mainly because she has been spayed and allowed to grow to her fullest potential, along with fed a better diet than her mother.

Your baby boy may just be one that was always last in line at the dinner table. So don’t believe he will always be small! Once he is able to eat all he needs and exercise, he will grow like a weed!

The lady I got my giant from has had a few record holders, I think they’ve been both male and female. Personally I’d be inclined to say that it depends much more on the individual bun than on the gender.

My boy was very big as a baby (bigger than his siblings I think) but now he isn’t as big as he was predicted to be, it just depends I think!
