I got a 2-3 month old Netherland Dwarf today, the guy didn’t give me any food. I then went to my local pet store and bought all the necessary supplies, when I was leaving the pet store they told me I should have gotten some food from the guy I got the rabbit from to transition her on to her new food. I called the guy back and he told me he wasn’t sure exactly what food they fed their rabbits because it was out of the bag and in a barrel, he said he thinks it Producers Pride all stock sweet 12%, when I looked that up, it isn’t rabbit food. I don’t know what to do now, do I just give the rabbit the Oxbow I bought from the pet store or keep trying to find out what the people I got the rabbit from fed her?? Thanks,Mike

Welcome Mike! Go ahead and just give Oxbow food you bought. Its not ideal not to be able to transition, but sometimes its just not possible. Oxbow food is good quality (good choice!). Just make sure to offer unlimited hay and fresh water too. We’d love to see pics of your new bunny !

In this case, I think not transitioning the normal way (by mixing old and new food) would actually be in your bun’s best interest, seeing as the breeder wasn’t even feeding her food meant for rabbits!

Congrats on your new family member!

That is what I was thinking. I did some research and found Oxbow to be very good. This isn’t my first bunny, my brother and I had a couple when we we’re young and my wife and I had one that I bought her when we were dating about 15 years ago and we had her until she passed away, that was about 7 years ago. It’s been a while, but I guess it’s like riding a bike, lol, it’s all coming back to me… I will post pictures of her soon. Thanks,Mike
