Attempt # 2 at making a post  Hi there! Our family is new to owning a pet rabbit. We’ve had Pepper for 2 months now. We are his 3rd family. He was a 4H rabbit (family #1). Family #2 adopted him from the county fair in August 2014, but decided they no longer wanted him. We adopted him in January 2015. We’re not really sure about his age (the previous family knew nothing about him, including his breed). The vet thinks he’s around 1, two at the very most. But he’s leaning more toward a year. Based on how he acts, and the fact that most 4H rabbits are under a year at the county fair.

Most families around here, do not keep rabbits as pets. They’re mainly 4H or livestock, and definitely not kept indoors. We have gotten strange looks/comments when people find out that Pepper is strictly an indoor rabbit, and that he does not poop all over the house. They are shocked when we tell them he’s litter trained, and even more shocked to find out you can spay/neuter rabbits. In fact that’s where he is now, at the vet’s getting neutered.

I live in a small county (lots of farms, small towns, no cities). and there is one exotic vet that pretty much everyone goes to. the next closest vet who will see a rabbit is around an hour away.  But the exotic vet near me (a 10 min drive) seems very knowledgeable about rabbits and seems to give the “correct” answers when i ask questions.

In addition to Pepper. My husband and I have 4 daughters ranging in age from 5-16. And a dog (Sadie) that we adopted from the County Pound 2 years ago.  She and Pepper are best buds and hang out with each other all day.

Oh and we do know that Pepper is a mini lop. I believe his color is called Opal.

Big welcome to you and your adorable little bunny! How sad that Pepper had to go through so many families before he found yours. That’s great that you are helping educate people in your area.

Those pics are too adorable. The second one almost made my heart burst.

thanks Yes almost everyone is shocked when they find out that my dog and rabbit get along quite well. Whenever my dog is lying down pepper will go right up to him and put his face next to my dog’s face. I even have video of the two of them licking each other!

Both Pepper and Sadie are adorable, and that is too cute how they snuggle. What nice pictures!

HI!!! So excited to meet you ALL! My doggies and bunny live freely together toooo! If anything, my dog’s get over Henry – if he jumps up on the bed, they jump down, he jumps down, they jump up, ha ha ha! In the morning he does binkies and zoomies around my oldest dog (15) and she slowly takes herself outside – she can’t be bothered with his excitement, ha ha ha!

Lovely to meet you all! Cheers.
